Be careful with cotton. Some times small particles from cotton can remain inside and can cause ear infection and can damage ear drum. My relative had hole in her ear drum because cotton that was stuck there from prolong use.I cannot talk on the phone without using a tightly wound up cotton ball in my ear. The cotton absorbs the sound just enough to help me keep from having tinnitus spikes.
May be you can use very soft ear plugs. Cut ear plugs in half may be?
