As the title says, can tinnitus be caused by allergies? I know that I can be sensitive to pollen and right now my tinnitus is louder than usual and my ears are itchy, can allergies be the problem?

Yes allergies can cause tinnitus with the extra mucous and inflamation going in your tubes.
Antihistamines and a nasil spray can help.
Love glynis

2 weeks is nothing for tinnitus and way too early to be considered permanent. Since you're already seeing improvement at such an early stage, chances are good it will continue to fade. Protect your hearing though to be safe. Keep us updated on how you progress.

How long does it usually take before it calms down?
In my case, 1st generation antihistamine calms it down in the next day if I take it in the night. My tinnitus was never linked to allergy, but my blood test show that I have allergy.
I have had tinnitus for a little more than 2 weeks now and it is very very slowly fading away. How long does it take to be considered permanent? Is 2 weeks to early?
In most cases it disappeared within 3 months(by statistic in my country).

Thank you, you give me alot of hope <3

Thanks for this discussion...though I'm getting immunotherapy for my allergies, it's been a bad season. About 3 weeks ago, I started to get a lot of congestion in my right sinus...I awoke one morning with a distant high-pitched sound in that ear. Today, it began in my left ear. My allergist gave me pregnisone for 5 days (I'm on day 2). My husband has been plagued from bad T for 15 years from using a jackhammer. He thinks mine will pass because it began with my allergies. Here's hoping...

Thanks again for your helpful comments!

I'm in the same boat it seems. Starting 2 1/2 weeks ago I began getting ringing in both ears with what feels like fluid is in my ears. They are constantly cracking. The ringing went to my good ear. I also have taken an antibiotic at the same time for an illness however according to literature it was one of the safest ones and I only took for 3 days. I hope that you improve as well as I cause this is the worst spike I have been in ever

My tinnitus gets louder when my nose is congested or irritated. A cold, or allergies can make your tinnitus sound louder. You may have a hiss on good days which gets louder with the above conditions. @audstune Good to hear they gave you prednisone. I don't know if they give this in Europe for allergies. I have allergies since April, I'm on nasal sprays and betahistine. I make salt water rinses. Steams. My nose is better after a hot bath, the ringing in my right ear is constant but it's because of an acoustic trauma I had in February. The ringing gets better with betahistine however.

@cspc Thanks for your feedback...and so sorry for why you have T. I do wish someone would consider doing more research/studies to help the millions of people with T...but until then...praying all of us find a way to endure!

@David077 Thanks for your suggestion...will do!
