I had a GYN ultrasound yesterday, took around 5 minutes of examing with a probe.

Didn't think much of it until now. Today I have tinnitus spike and clogged ear feeling in my right ear and now that I think of it, most of the exam was toward my right abdomen...

I have had tinnitus and hyperacusis for several years now - I wear earplugs.

I wore earplugs at the exam - could that do anything?

TL,DR: could ultrasound exam make tinnitus and/or hyperacusis worse especially if wearing earplugs during the exam?

Thanks for ANY thoughts on this... and experiences too :)

I wouldn't imagine it could make it worse, in my experience ultrasound examinations are more or less silent.

I had an ultrasound 2 days ago and didn't notice a spike and my tinnitus is reactive. I did wear ear plugs and ear muffs during the exam so I dont know if that makes any difference.

Was it a permanent spike?

Has anyone here had a permanent tinnitus spike following having an ultrasound test of the abdomen or some place like that?

I had a carotid neck ultrasound test back in the winter last year, so that was pretty close to the ears. I don't recall any adverse effect or spike.

Any more thoughts on this?

I too had an abdominal ultrasound last week which took around 15 minute to do.

I wore earplugs. I am having a really bad spike now, I did have a spike before but I feel it is much worse after the ultrasound. :(

What worries me is the spike is in my high pitched tones which may be affected the most by an ultrasound? Hopefully it's just a random spike but you never know!

Also this is my second ultrasound. I don't remember having issues with the first one, although I don't remember if it was before my MRI incident which has made it so much easier to get spikes apart of a 3x tinnitus increase.
