Can people with severe hyperacusis trade their hearing to get rid of it? I know that this is not necessarily the case with tinnitus, but what about hyperacusis? Does anyone know?

Hyperacusis is normally associated with normal hearing. A different phenomenon - recruitment, is associated with hearing loss in which one's dynamic range is reduced

@Robb09 Do you wear hearing aids or have a cochlear implant? If you find (intense) sounds too loud, then your devices might need adjusting - however in my experience, profoundly deaf people who wear hearing aids don't like compression (that cushions sharp noises)

You are 100% deaf and still experience hyperacusis? I am just looking for clarification, because my hyperacusis has gotten to the point that I will surgically induce deafness if that will fix it.

Do some research on drugs that people have found benificial. See if you can get your hands on them.

I've heard things like keppra or gabapentin. Everyone's different. But do mind these drugs have nasty side effects sometimes. But tbh if your H is that severe, I don't think it will matter.

I can't think of any ENT in the world who would destroy hearing just to get rid of hyperacusis.

Reducing stress and hypervigilance is the way out of hyperacusis along with controlled sound therapy and desensitization
