CBG:CBD Cannabinoid Tincture — It's Helping My Tinnitus

An interesting article on the subject:

Cannabinoids, Inner Ear, Hearing, and Tinnitus: A Neuroimmunological Perspective

I've been using CBD oil for more than a month and it really helps my tinnitus. The secret for myself, is taking minute amounts on a regular basis (1 ml swallowed not sublingual x 5 per day). Large amounts spikes my tinnitus.
Did you experiment with the minute amounts and swallowing vs. sublingual to find that this worked for you? Or, did you get the idea from the article that you linked?

Thanks for sharing what is helping you.

@Cher2, the article convinced me there could be a positive link between tinnitus and CBD, but the delivery method, form & dosage remains to be found. I first tried to vape CBD, it spiked my tinnitus but the next day was wonderful. It is difficult to know exactly how much you are taking with vaping, so I bought CBD capsules. I took 10 mg, the smallest I could find, and again my tinnitus spiked, but the next day was great. I tried freezing the capsules to cut them in half, but CBD oil doesn't freeze very well. I rapidly concluded that I need small amounts and probably slow release. I went to oil. I started to experiment, 1 mg here and there and tinnitus was under control. Two mg before bedtime and it spiked me. For me it's the difference between cicadas or crickets. I love crickets.

Now, I swallow 1 mg of CBD oil (no THC please) about 4 or 5 times a day. I buy my oil form the Ontario Cannabis Store and I've tried a few products since one was out of stock. I've had tinnitus (noise induced) for 24 years and it's been getting worse. I also take 3 mg of Melatonin at bedtime and I wear hearing aids which also help with my tinnitus. I flee loud noise, no more concerts for me (sorry Rolling Stones). :rockingbanana:

Well it is gratifying there is good cannabinoid. My opinion, being medical doctor myself, is that there has to be plasticity, plasticity takes time. I've got a friend growing out some THCV for me. If you check my content I have enormous cannabinoid thread and I'm glad someone else has taken over with this novel thread. So giving medication time, is referred to tincture of time. My friend has grown CBG flowers for me, my idea is to actually buy concentrate plus vape.

EMDR method worked for me.

After just one week this suicidal spike is gone. EMDR was discovered by a clinical psychologist while hiking. Right foot -> scan eyes right, left foot -> scan eyes left. While wearing Bose noise-cancelling headset to accentuate the tinnitus.

Simultaneously focus on EMDR and tinnitus.

The book Rewiring the Brain gave me the idea.

Cannabis in theory may induce plasticity, but meditation and EMDR also does. You can also buy EMDR buzzies that you hold in your hand; that might work. My clinical psychologist tried it but she didn't know the correct technique, she was looking to erase negative emotion, such as like in trauma therapy, she didn't know there was no negative emotion, it's just the brain focuses on the tinnitus, perceive it as something dangerous, and increases the neural networks. The neural network must be taught there is no danger, that is why meditation while focusing on tinnitus works, apparently, so I tried EMDR and in one week my suicidal ideas are gone and I'm much more productive at work and not in bed the entire weekend.
I have been doing tinnitus focused meditations. I'd be interested in learning more about EMDR. Any pointers for a novice?

@Uklawyer, thank you; you are most kind. I did sleep well last night. Xanax is a last resort for me, but I must say it works! It lightens the pain & helps me sleep without adversely affecting the tinnitus. Except for the "it's an addictive substance" part, it's a marvelous drug. LOL! So I of course take it sparingly.

Yes; the joint & muscle pain returning is very interesting. My guess is that it IS the CBG & it's lovely anti-inflammatory action that's keeping it at bay. I'm praying it works on the tinnitus too, as it continues to be much more loud & obnoxious since discontinuing the CBG. Can't win sometimes.

I got a notification it'll be here Saturday. I'll be watching for the mail truck. I'll post my update.
Maybe your tinnitus seems louder after experiencing quieter tinnitus, but your baseline hasn't really shifted?

@Quiet please, thank you for all the information on CBG. I've tried CBD and it makes my tinnitus spike really bad so I had to stop taking it. I have a good source for Pure CBG and am going to give it a try at 50 mg twice a day. Also going to work on some other things at the same time (therapy, meditation, grounding, etc). I should be getting my CBG next week and after taking it for a week or so, I'll post my results.

I'm glad you are doing a little better and hope it stays low. Take care.

@EricJ, wishing you all the best with your CBG experiment.

Yes, I'm still doing better on it than without it. I tested that out by not buying more when I ran out. After about a week, I got a loud buzzing in my bad ear that wouldn't go away. I ordered a new bottle and after a few days, the buzzing softened and eventually went almost completely away. Enough to tolerate it.

With that said, my friend's soft intermittent tinnitus got louder! I guess like everything else we've tried, not everything helps everyone. Good luck!

It's only been 8 days, but I had to share this with my fellow tinnitus sufferers.

I've been taking subliminally Lazarus Naturals Full Spectrum CBG:CBD tincture. The bottle contains 1500 mg each of the CBG:CBD Cannabinoid in MCT oil. So far, I'm taking 10 mg 4x day.

TRUTH! It is most definitely helping to soften my severe 24/7 tinnitus.

I initially started taking it for a chronic long-term inflammatory condition that affects many parts of my body, including my joints and head. The pain and swelling is quite severe at times. I also have CEH; Cochlear Endolymphatic Hydrops. Tinnitus is a symptom of CEH.

I've taken CBD oil in the past, and although it has helped with sleep and somewhat with pain, it never helped my tinnitus. So I firmly 100% believe it's the CBG that's doing the job.

If you research CBG, it touts many benefits. Do I believe all of the claims?

For the most part; yes. In my case it's helping tremendously not only with the tinnitus, but with the joint pain, headaches, inflammation, edema and mood. My mood this last 3 years has been mostly depressed, anxious and sad.

I feel better. By the 2nd day, I felt better. My family has noticed and are overjoyed. Apparently I've been a grouch and didn't realize or didn't care. I can see clearer now. I can't blame it on the pandemic any longer.

I always believed my tinnitus was tied into my inflammation. But ALL prescribed and OTC medications I tried aggravated my Tinnitus and the spikes were awful and very debilitating.

I hope you try it. Can't wait to hear what others say.
Glad to read that you are feeling better on the oils.

I am totally new to CBD. Interested in trying. Petrified of spikes however. Are they related to THC content? Which one are you taking please?

I've been doing the CBD + CBG tinctures before bed for about 6 months. It definitely helps me relax / sleep. Doesn't seem to have a notable effect on my tinnitus or hyperacusis as far as I can tell.

Usually more recently, I don't take it daily, but only when I need to chill.
Does this tincture have THC? Does it spike your tinnitus?

Interesting find. I'm happy it's helping.
I need to improve my sleep which is down to a few hours due to debilitating tinnitus. I found this article analysing in detail the effect of CBD in tinnitus and hearing loss. It's hard for me to read under this torture but it looks like the study showed that CBD can worsen tinnitus in rats. This was my experience more than two years ago: CBD was helping me with sleep/anxiety but upon waking up the tinnitus was elevated. I wonder if CBG, which is a precursor, could help or spike my tinnitus again. It is much worse than it was 2 years ago so I'm hesitating.
Is that a permanent worsening?

Thank you for this thread - I definitely want to try CBD and/or CBT for my tinnitus. I have a few questions though, after reading many posts on CBD, CBT.

I gather that any amount of THC is known to exacerbate or even spike tinnitus?

@Quiet please, did you ultimately find a combo of CBD and CBT helped your tinnitus?

Any other folks find that CBT works better than CBD alone, or a combo of both?

It seems that a sublingual tincture would be the best option for consistent dosing.

Thank you for any help. I am new at navigating my battle with tinnitus. Tinnitus Talk is an amazing source for info, but it's a lot to take in.
