I assumed clicking was a normal occurrence with tinnitus sufferers but after reading some threads on here I've gathered that that is not the case.

I should back up a bit... I've had tinnitus for about 3 years now. I have hereditary mild/moderate hearing loss in the low frequencies in both ears. I also have some noise damage from years listening to music with earphones. I don't use them anymore, obviously. Can't say when the clicking started because I wasn't really paying attention to it. It comes usually after I've heard a loud sound but can happen, more rarely, without any loud noises present.

Tonic tensor tympani syndrome seems like a likely candidate from what I've read, but I don't think I have hyperacusis... I am paranoid about some sounds, but I think that's phonophobia more than anything.

I do also have TMJ which seems to be worse on the left side of my jaw which is the side my bad ear is on. And when I put my finger right in front of my ear and open and close my mouth, I can hear clicking going on there too (it's not coming from my ear, but my jaw) and I can feel stuff moving around in there, almost like something is rubbing against something else. The clicking jaw doesn't happen on the right side. And my tinnitus isn't as bad on the right side either (probably just jinxed myself).

Anyway which sounds more likely? Perhaps it's a mix of both? Something else?
