Dental Work Coming Up... (Last Time Was Disastrous!)

Well I believe that my dentist makes a huge difference. Very understanding. At my last treatment no laser.
I guess that I got through it because I had no choice. Lots of breaks and realized that the noise was not coming through my ears but the bone conduction. Earplugs actually made it worse. Also have to stop wondering about "what if". This may open another discussion but there were a couple of times my tinnitus was lower after my appt. read a bit about the novacaine, carbocaine can temporarily lower it. I still get anxious about going to the dentist but I am learning that tinnitus is something I can't figure out. Something that has helped me cope is practicing mindfullness. Check out Jon Kabit Zinn. Book, YouTube etc. I believe in it, practice it and have better days because of it. Not a cure but helps me cope. All the best to you, wish I could be there with you and help you through your appts. Must add that I am human too and when a spike hits..
It still hard to relax until it passes. People on this site help every time.

I also believe having an understanding dentist will make a big difference. I guess there is limited amount of things that are in our power and then just have to try and let go of those things we cannot control. It's really hard, especially when panic kicks in. I've actually been thinking about starting meditation. I have tried it in the past, but kind of gave up as sitting down with my emotions and thoughts makes me very anxious. Which is just another reason why I'd need to learn quiet down the mind. So I'll definitely check this guy you recommended and already did 30 minutes guided meditation earlier just a moment ago. I agree that this site is a lifesaver... people understand exactly what it's like, but also can bring in a calmer, more objective perspective.

A laser makes more of a difference than an understanding dentist who is ok with taking breaks. Next time you might consider looking for a dentist that has a laser that can be used for the type of dental drilling that you will need.
