Does Anyone Else Hate Facebook?

I don't hate it, I am tired of it. Actually I am tired of all social media and I am planning to delete all my accounts. I started having these thoughts when I turned 30. Now I'm 32. :D
I've never had any of those accounts. I feel bad about being logged into my YouTube account. I use that account as a collection of bookmarks=channel subscriptions. When I sign in in order to subscribe to a channel, I make sure to sign out right away. I don't want Google to know what YouTube videos I've watched. I have also never signed up for anything that requires me to provide a cell phone number. I don't Own a cell phone, but if I were to own one, I wouldn't want the owners of the service to actually know my true identity.

Facebook ads track users across various corners of the internet. Facebook will sell your data. If you have tinnitus you will get ads for tinnitus related scams. Facebook is responsible for the corporate centralization of the internet.

Facebook is probably the most sinister company there is.

Zuckerberg even wanted to access data that users never agreed to provide to Facebook, including financial data.

I don't like Facebook, and find them too grabby with data. For example, they monitor all your text messages on the phone once you have an account. Can't stand Zuckerberg either.

This is a bit too much for me, Bill. I mean, definitely, you're on the next level of conspiracy. Are you a spy? :p:D

The people in my parents' generation cared about privacy. I also care about it.

To quote a joke: In the past people were freaked out at the thought that there might be a wiretap at their home. These days they're like: "Hey wiretap, do cats like pancakes?"

What's happening these days isn't right.

To be fair to @Bill Bauer, I also don't have a mobile phone, I have a piece of tape that I place over my webcam when I'm not using it and I put a bath towel over the shower door so nobody can see me in the shower. I am the only Englishman in town... in that big, bad country... never know who's watching:ROFL:

Everyone should be doing this. Not a conspiracy theorist, but it is possible for people to hack into your webcam. This has happened to some people who have then been blackmailed with the video/images these hackers have obtained.

There's also been evidence from whistleblowers that some Governments have been watching people through webcam.

Not suggesting anyone opts out of society by not using technology -- what you as an individual are watching on YouTube is not going to be worth knowing, for instance -- and everyone needs to use a phone/computer. Just be aware of small things you can do to protect yourself a little bit.

And I think you're safe in the shower @all to gain! :D

I'm pondering the idea of deleting my Facebook account sometime in the future and make a new one just to keep in touch with a handful of close friends. The Messenger chat is apparently very convenient for everyone and already established as a de facto messaging platform. I hate how Facebook keeps me connected to acquaintances from the past. I don't want to straight up unfriend or block them. I already fiddled with the settings so that my posts are only visible to a select few.

I am from USA (Country in Decay) and dislike Facebook but I do have friends from the UK and other parts of the world so I get perspectives of how others live and think about things. Also, I am deaf and the messaging tool allows me to communicate with overseas and local friends and is helpful during the "pandemic" that Republicans in this country believe was a hoax until they started falling like dominoes.

I mean this completely in jest, but I do find it at least a little ironic that you are so big on privacy, but your Tinnitus Talk username is your name (presumably, could be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Bauer_(poet) ?).
LOL Of course that's not my real name. "Bauer" is the first thing that popped into my mind when I had to choose a username for one of my first computer accounts back in 1996. I think I must have passed by an "Eddie Bauer" franchise store that day.

My first name isn't Bill. I am actually sick of people addressing me as "Bill". I am also sick of my actual name. That's despite the name on my driver's license and passport being fake, in the sense that it's a result of a legal name change which is something that had to be done as the name on my birth certificate sucks too!

Are you suggesting that the UK Isn't a country in decay?!

I'm thinking about doing this in the future too. I want to delete Facebook and create a new account with only close friends and family.

What I do is just use the Messenger app - that's the most convenient way for me to contact people. I haven't properly been on Facebook or checked my news feed in ages.

Take a look at the "daily death" numbers in Sweden. In case you didn't know, Sweden hasn't had Any lock downs or mask requirements. Do you think the higher than average toll in the US might have something to do with the fact that COVID-19 patients were sent to live in nursing homes in several states such as the state of New York?

Sorry about forgetting to paste the relevant link in my original response to you:

You seem bitter that your life changed for the better by moving to Canada. Or just bitter at life in general.

You seem bitter that your life changed for the better by moving to Canada.
For the first 30 years I had been mostly happy in Canada. This is the reason why right now I am saddened by Canada's demise, but this has nothing to do with any of my earlier posts in this thread.

My latest post was about me not being satisfied with the various names I've had over the years. Several years ago I came up with a combination of a last and first names that I actually liked - a lot. Back then I had entertained the idea of changing my name a second time and doing that when I retire. These days I don't expect my Golden Years to be as carefree as I once thought they were going to be. I doubt that in the future I will have the opportunity to waste my time on frivolous things like a nice sounding name.

It's funny that you should mention changing names as just lately I've been considering changing mine. But not seriously. Then there's the signature that needs seeing to.

I ain't retiring... that's a fact!
