Hi All,
Apologies if this is under the wrong section, please feel free to move elsewhere if necessary.
I wanted to know if any members know who is considered the leading tinnitus expert within the UK? I feel like my tinnitus pitch has changed and I wanted to get some advise on steps to take for this because I have been extremely careful with protecting my ears and have truly avoided all noisy places in the last couple of years. Ironically it has been this time when the tinnitus has got worse.
By worse, I mean the pitch of the tinnitus has moved from a low hissing sound (very manageable), to a MUCH higher pitched hissing/shrill sound which is a lot more difficult to mask. At the moment I can manage this, it is essentially a lot more annoying and distracting and I do have times when outside when I don't notice my T. Interestingly, when i am in a relatively noisy place, like a train station, the T seems to turn up in gain, to ensure I am always aware of it, aided by the fact it's at such a ridiculously high frequency. The problem is mainly in my right ear.
I had an MRI scan 2 years ago which came back fine, although the ENT specialist did note something about my right side that was slightly different to the left (regarding a vein, but can't remember exactly what he said). What's interesting is when i move my jaw forward, it amplifies the T sound i am hearing, so wondering if there is anything happening here. My ENT specialist did note he wasn't an expert in tinnitus, which is making me consider writing this.
Basically I would like to know if anyone knows who the leading doctor/specialist is in the UK for tinnitus diagnosis and treatment. I guess what I'm looking for is a complete diagnosis, and second opinion.
This may seem like clutching at straws, but the goal is to fully accept that nothing medically can be done at present, although I am positive and very hopeful we will have effective treatment in the near future.
Thanks for taking the time to write back!
