Don't Know What to Do Anymore, Terribly Lonely and Scared. Reaching Out.

Oh dear wrote a long rely but it didn't post Iol, I was mostly ranting about a bad experience this week with a doctor but it's off my chest at least, Its shocking how little knowledge and support comes from from the medical community, but basically he's told me tinnitus may be bad but most people don't get hysterical about it!!!!! And take my tablets as what else do I think they can do for me?

Complete lack of faith now.

I feeling a lot calmer despite this interaction though as spike gone down (finally as was a scare), now I'm solely concerned with it not having another one, this is why I stay at home so I'm not put in a position where I'm stuck with a helicopter flying over me outside.

Even the thought It might have made it worse sends me into a tail spin.

Nearly the weekend, I can get out and gonna try go in car for short journey to build myself back up.

Much love to you all, were all each other has and I value you all xx

I'm glad to see your sounding a bit better @autumnwillows...this thing we got comes with a lot of highs and lows. Be ready for a roller coaster ride, hopefully with time you'll be at a better place. I hear you as far as the medical field my first ENT was terrible, thankfully my 2nd ENT has turned out to be much better. Hope you have a great weekend!

@Autumnwillows show your doctor the petition on Change, it will show him that lots of people are distressed by tinnitus. Don't let them treat you as an hysterical woman.

Do a little each day to get you out. Find a new house to rent... once you can get out freely it will improve x

I have ear plugs but somehow they cause ear pain and a blocked up feeling after short use.
I guess you already got them, but ear muff type ear protection works pretty well. I agree that "ear plugs" can be very uncomfortable. I have a set of Sony noise cancelling ear muffs that work well, but are kinda pricey. Something like $300. I also use a pair of Apple "Ear Buds" that are noise cancelling too. The Apple ear buds are less visible and seem to bring down the edge of my Tinnitus making it more tolerable, although they are not as effective as the Sony's. But a lot of time I desire less noise cancelling. It's nice to have options.

My particular Tinnitus is very much affected by ambient noise. I have significant Hyperacusis that makes my Tinnitus much worse, so this is why I often have to wear some type of noise protection even when around just normal noise. For what it's worth, I know the despair. I have posted a few longwinded posts concerning what you are going thru if you want to search the out

Concerning the helicopter noise that is apparently bothering you so much, ...that is actually good news. That is something that you can actually DO something about. It might be difficult right at this time, but eventually you will find a way to get away from the helicopter noise. So at least take some comfort in that. It is so important that we can eek out even a little bit of hope for better days. A lot of that hope is based on us feeling like we can do something about our suffering.

There's a lot to say, but it is very important that we are able to focus on things other than our Tinnitus. If we can learn once again to actually focus on things other than the noise in our heads, you will be on the road to much better days and possible habituation. There is hope ahead of you. You are likely in the toughest time right now. A week from now it may not seem to be any better, but don't lose hope. I feel pretty confident that a few months from now, it will be better, if only a little. And so it goes.

You will find a lot of encouraging words on this forum and also a lot of negative stuff. The negative stuff will always be there as it is on any public Internet forum like this. Just weed through it all and you will find some real gems that offer encouraging words. It has been a help to myself to have a two way dialogue about our common predicament.

Let us know how you are getting along. Stay in it. J

I would like to confirm this. My tinnitus isn't super bad, but I got a lot of very bad thoughts when I had two subsequent worsenings that made me feel hopeless about the future. I have to get out of my lethargy which builds hope little by little again. At the beginning I was very existential (carpe diem) because I fear even more worsenings given my luck, but by the end of the day I was already partially back to my old habits (reading too much on the internet on various stuff :) ). My mood is a bit better today, even if my worry is still high. Nothing really changed, just my outlook.

Our mental state has so much to do with how we try to live a normal life with Tinnitus. I am always trying to do things that lift my mental state of being. This has multiple benefits that leads to having the "feeling" that the Tinnitus has weakened (even if it really hasn't). Glad you are having better days. Hopefully more to come.

Dear @Autumnwillows, sending you my positive vibes and love. If you find that your issue is partly attributable to anxiety or panic, do consider discussing with a doctor as to whether antidepressants that deal with anxiety might help to tide you through this rough patch. Once you get back on your feet, you can slowly wean off the antidepressant.
