Door Slam — How Many Decibels?

I know because I am also in it and recognise many of your behaviours, fears and thoughts as my own.

Yeah, me too. I just went to the mall today and they were playing music throughout it and there were a ton of people. I tried to keep calm and wore earplugs but it was still an anxiety filled experience for me. It's difficult to separate the effects of noise from stress. Or to accurately judge the loudness of something when you are in a fearful state.

Every loud sound will not necessarily cause damage (obviously some do) so I hope it is this way for you, no damage. Stay strong and hang in there.

As soon as you heard the music and saw the noisy crowds, why didn't you leave?

I'm like Fox Mulder - I want to believe. To believe that the sounds couldn't really hurt me. That any increase was from stress or a temporary spike from hyperacusis. The tinnitus is noticeably louder. I just want to live a more "normal" existence. I'm tired of it all. All the struggle and fear. Maybe I've just been listening to @Ed209 too much. ;)

Sadly, this reminds me of
Flash back to January 1889 … a Paiute Indian named Wavoka (aka Jack Wilson), while suffering from high fever, had a vision during a total eclipse of the sun. This revelation became the genesis of the religious movement known as the Ghost Dance. At first the Indians believed the dance would simply unite them with friends and relatives in the ghost world. As the movement spread from tribe to tribe, however, the dancers began to imagine that the dance would make them invincible.

It consisted of slow shuffling movements following the course of the sun. It would be performed for four or five days and was accompanied by singing and chanting. It would, they imagined, cause the world to open up and swallow all other people, while the Indians and their friends would remain on this land, which would return to its beautiful and natural state. In addition, a ghost shirt made of buckskin cloth was said to render the wearer immune to bullets.

The unity and fervor that the Ghost Dance movement inspired, however, only fear and hysteria among white settlers and contributed to the events ending in the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890. When the smoke cleared and the gunfire ceased, more than 300 Sioux, some wearing ghost shirts, lay dead.

Are you still worried about the door slam now?

I don't say this to be smart or smug, I say it to highlight the pattern of anxiety and phonophobia you are now in.

I know because I am also in it and recognise many of your behaviours, fears and thoughts as my own.

These shots will replace the door anxiety and will in turn be replaced soon by something else.

You aren't losing your mind, you are just highly anxious

I do not mind street music, crowds etc., any such noises at all. My fear are suddden loud noises out of my control, o. I used to have no issues walking through busy streets and stuff.

Prednisone, Nootropics and other medicines can mess up with your sleep, your ears, your sodium, fluid retention and your electrolytes. It's important to keep in mind that even an electrolyte imbalance such as too much sodium in your food can cause high blood pressure and increased ear pressure that contributes to hyperacusis. It's possible that @lifeisover was given medicines in the hospital which made him feel unwell such as medicines that contain substances that caused sodium and fluid retention which caused an increase in his/her blood pressure and made him unable to sleep well for days or weeks. Also an electrolyte imbalance can make the ear pressure worse thus worsen hyperacusis.

Remember to drink water, eat a balanced diet with less salt and sugar whenever possible, eat bananas, take magnesium and make sure you eat foods with calcium. Eat at regular times if you have intermediate insulin resistance your tinnitus will become louder when you are hungry and thirsty.

You can consider taking antioxidants (Omega 3, ginkgo biloba 80 mg daily, B-Complex) and vitamin C, beta carotene. You can check if you are deficient in vitamin D, E and A. Eat meat because it contains Zinc. Eat spinach, bananas, avocados, broccoli, cabbage they are excellent source of magnesium and minerals. It's a great idea to add olive oil and other healthy oils in you diet. You can eat fish such as salmon, etc.
