Ear Cleaning Liquid Makes My Tinnitus Stop?

Hey,

what on Earth could this mean? So I've had this weird mid-frequency on/off tinnitus for 2 months now in my right ear. I don't know what caused it, maybe muscle tension, TMD and bruxism due to bad stress.

But anyway... When cleaning my ear and having ear full of oily cleaning liquid, if I lie down/lean my head against my other shoulder so that the liquid touches my ear drum completely, the ringing stops/decreases to a minimum level so that I can't hear it. The difference is huge as the ringing clearly starts again when I raise my head.

Why does it do that? Does anyone else experience the same?

The ringing sound is maybe somehow mechanical/objective? I don't know... complete mystery... I have sometimes moments of silence, maybe when I'm very relaxed.

Have you had your ear checked by an ENT? Perhaps you just have wax in there that needs to be cleaned out. Ear wax impaction can cause tinnitus.

My right ear tinnitus goes away when I lie down in a certain position -- I was also thinking I should go back to an ENT and see if it's subjective!

Let me know if you find out anything more.

What happen when you got negative pressure in your ears - inverted valsalva or press air in the ear with your finger and hold it. Does it silence your tinnitus?
Maybe closing your ear (liquid), stops something that is responsible for the ringing.

Hi,

@zerosandones, yeah, ENT checked my ears and totally clean... I will however go to ENT again in a month because of these weird symptoms and I wish to get some advice on how to cope with this. This moderately loud sound goes constantly on and off 0-20 times/minute 24/7 and it drives me crazy. I don't like to be awake anymore.

@seppl, when doing inverted valsava, it sometimes stops for a moment. When pressing air in the ear with my finger, T changes pitch but doesn't stop.

@ruusupuska That does not sound fun! :(

Have you thought of going to a dentist to get a night guard or chiropractor to relieve the neck/jaw muscle tension? I've been practicing meditating (during which I consciously relax my jaw -- which takes a bit of effort but is possible), and my jaw is much less tight these days. My tinnitus has also been fading (although no idea if it's related).

Hope you find some relief -- it seems that the best strategy is to experiment with maskers, try to de-stress as much as possible, and perhaps have a list of things for the ENT to evaluate so you can make the most of the visit.

Best of luck.

This is exactly the same for me!!! How is your situation now after a year, may I ask? @ruusupuska
