Does anyone else experience ear fluttering?

Along with my very bad tinnitus and hyperacusis my ear flutters a lot. Like a pulsating sound that sounds like a heartbeat, my ear does this pounding after a loud abrupt sound or if my ear gets startled in anyway, boom it flutters, sometimes even a few beats at a time.

My ear also sounds broken inside, like it literally makes a sound like if little bones in my ear are broken... I know my ears are beyond damaged :(. Even when I cry, my eardrum rattles/shakes. I can't even have a normal cry with my stupid ear.

I know there's no way for it to heal, but is there any vitamins or something that can at least help a bit?? I'm too scared to end my life so I'm just trying to deal with this.

Hi @stacey ! My ear flutters sometimes, more recently than in the previous six months since I developed t. Certain sounds seem to trigger it. I don't know why. I'm seeing the audiologist in a few weeks so hopefully they'll be able to help. This sucks!

Are you protecting enough? My hyperacusis is currently also giving me a hard time and I am now wearing ear muffs during the hole day (also at home) and earplugs to sleep.

I feel that overprotecting makes this condition worse. And from what I've been reading the fluttering could be associated with TTTS, which kind of makes sense because this does feel like an issue with the ear muscles... The bad thing is there's no treatment for this either. So great, I have tinnitus, hyperacusis and TTTS.

Yes, I think this ear fluttering is related to hyperacusis. At least many with hyperacusis have it, me too. For me the eardrum fluttering improves when staying in silence for some longer time. My ears twitch under the ear muffs from time to time. But I don't think you can get worse from overprotection. I am trying this out currently. Maybe the nerves are just recalibrating, I don't know.

Hello there, this is my second post about ear fluttering TTTS.

I would like to know if anyone have tried magnesium, if so what dosage and was it effective at all?

I am looking for something to try to relax my ear muscles from spasming... It's been fluttering nonstop for days and I need to try something. Bad enough I already have tinnitus & hyperacusis but now this TTTS muscle spasming is making things even worse. From much reading and researching I am aware that the MEM muscles and nerves is what's causing this fluttering. I want to first try a natural route to try and relax those muscles before seeing a benzo alternative.

I read magnesium can be a big help, if any other suggestions please do tell.

Hope everyone is well or at least coping.

Avoid magnesium oxide. Other forms are okay. 400-800 mg per day. Might not do anything for you...

@stacey There is a surgery for TTTS where they can cut 2 muscles inside the middle ear. A few people reported huge improvement. I'm not so familiar but I have seen a few posts on Facebook. It seems like an easy procedure. I don't know if it works for everyone.. I think I have TTTS too due my fluttering but I'm not sure because that can also be symptom of hyperacusis...
