Cause of Tinnitus
Years of excessively loud headphone use
I've never had ear pain before. Even when I had my Permanent Threshold Shift. I had warmth, fullness but never pain.

But I'm beginning to get it at random now. It's like a dull ache. It's really weird. Is this normal?

Welcome to the forum. There are many reasons for ear pain. Ear infection is a common cause of ear pain. Ear drum problem can also cause it. So perhaps you need to see an ENT asap. Take care. God bless.

I've been on the forum for a few months haha :). All I did was change my display picture.

I also get ear fullness and pain, so far it stays for awhile and goes. I believe it is part of T, due to I never had a problem before with my ears. So yes I believe it is part of T symptom.

If your ears are in pain, then i'd go to an ent to check it out. It could be an infection. Ear infections can take quite a while to build up and quite a while for them to get better.

Good luck!

I have hyperacusis. Hyperacusis feels like knives in my ear. This feels like a dull ache as if something is inflamed.

It may be noise exposure but it wasn't anything loud though hmm

Hi @Taylorslay ,
The pain can be from ear pressure but I always recommend you get your ears checked for wax or infection even a sinus problem.
Love glynis x

I believe this pain is related to hyperacusis with pain (noxacusis)
shame no one suggested that.

Have you ever had ear pain before hyperacusis / tinnitus? It could be related. Do you pop your ears to relieve the feeling of fullness in your ears? I read that doing that can cause more issues with your ears.

At times l have ear pain. I have trouble with my right ear. I only have tinnitus in that ear. ENT said it's a thickening of my inner ear from ear infections. If that's what caused tinnitus l have no idea. She does tells me to pop my ears.

I'm in this spot right now. (usually mild T but severe loudness H) Never had this lingering dull ache... Did you figure out what it was?

If it comes and goes it's probably just related to Hyperacusis or maybe middle ear pressure.

An ear infection is going to be persistently painful. If it is then see a dr.

On the days when my H and reactive T come back I can get some pains too. Yet on the days they're absent I am fine.

Seems to be middle ear pressure according to a doctor. (Eardrum is bulging inwards)

Dear lord this page is old. Lol

Did it settle for you though?

Dr. Paul (whoever that is) writes "This pulled back or retracted ear drum can cause an "increased hearing sensitivity". In other words sounds seem to be louder or there may even be pain in the ear itself because of the retraction."

Anybody had experience of increased H coming from a retracted ear drum? I'm hoping I found the cause of my pain and why my H on the right ear is so much worse, as this is presumably fixable...

Also, for anybody else who has ear pain. Get your eardrum checked! :) I've been having this for 2 months until i stumbled upon a doctor who took a look.

So what did he/she recommended? Hope you are better now.

Nasal spray for opening up eaustachan tubes and valsalva. We will se if works. Today is a good day so far...

Glad you are having a good day. :)
I went to my Dr. today and checked my ear... said the ear drum looks good, canal is good...nothing wrong. I find that Flexeril helps alleviate the mild pain and discomfort.
