Elon Musk’s Neuralink Looking to Treat Tinnitus

Musk and Grimes split up after 3 years. How these singers continue in their work with tinnitus will never be known. I haven't experienced mild tinnitus... It must just be a different world.
They are back together and even had a second child.

I also don't know how these people continue their lives in the show business like this...

What's the mechanism of action for this device? Are they developing the interface or the tinnitus treatment protocol? I have a feeling it's the former, not the latter.

This seems way too complicated. Non-invasive cochlear implant seems much easier and has had quite good results so far. This would most likely not work on cochlear-based tinnitus as well.

This is what we need - a device that can stimulate the cochlea but without destroying any remaining hearing like a regular cochlear implant does:

Electrical stimulation of the cochlea for treatment of chronic disabling tinnitus: an open-label trial towards the development of an implantable device

This could have significant potential - just needs someone to develop it!
I actually contacted this trial the other day.

Unfortunately, being on antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds excluded me.

I asked if I could be provided with any information regarding this implant. I was told no unfortunately, due to patents on the device.

@DaveFromChicago, aren't you the patent researcher?

Both are similar tech as in they are brain interfaces but Synchron's approach is considered 'minimally invasive' as it is an endovascular approach, whereas Neuralink is consider majorly invasive.

I really think that implantables are the answer but most doctors would disagree.

Well, everyone thought Apple was crazy introducing iPhone in 2007, that was easily breakable, needed charging overnight and why the hell would we use such a small screen to interact with the Internet.

I guess some people like Jobs and Musk can see the future better than others but the problem here is the goddamned archaic FDA and similar regulators.

I think they are going to put an obstacle after obstacle in Neuralink's path. Maybe for good intentions, but also maybe delaying treatment that is badly needed by many millions.

Latest information.
The mind ping-pong was amazing. First I was like "but he's doing just the same thing again" and then I realized "oh, it's unplugged!" Also good to hear that tinnitus is on their list, though it seems a no-brainer because Neuralink to me is the next generation of deep brain stimulation which does work for tinnitus.

How much would that chip cost? (If, if, success)
No one has a clue. I'd imagine early versions for paralysis would be expensive, but by 2027 the price will be dictated by what it offers and if there is a demand for the chip. If it cures tinnitus by then I'd imagine demand would be high if safety data between now and then is 100% and it is a rock solid procedure.

What would you pay to be rid of your tinnitus? That could be a good starting point.

I'm 100% confident about Musk, honestly. My man :)

DBS works kind of well for tinnitus if used at correct spots in the auditory pathway, so I don't see why Neuralink would not work as well, and yea, Elon is the richest guy in the world, so if one can push the treatment/cure, it's surely him.

2027 seems a bit early, I'd bet between 2027 and 2030 honestly, but heads up, we'll get through this, neuroscience is advancing at an exponential rate.

I have to agree. Let's say this treatment costs around $3,000 to $5,000, we will still have a huge advantage over conventional Deep Brain Stimulation that costs around $50,000 to $70,000 but is mainly covered by insurance so, we'll see how it goes. I don't think it will be very expensive. Surgery is the more complicated part.
