Famous People with Tinnitus

I don't believe everyone who says they have severe tinnitus. Most people who have it can't function nevermind continuing to make loud music.

What about Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine? He has tinnitus since 1991 but he hasn't stop producing and performing some of the most extreme music I have ever heard. I quote from an interview with the Guardian in 2013:

"Shields suffers from tinnitus ("it varies from mild to extreme") and has tendonitis in his fretting hand. He dismisses these conditions philosophically – "It's part of the job and we're all going to die anyway" [ ... ] "Initially, I was worried," he admits. "But I've come to treat the tinnitus as a friend. It filters unwanted sounds and actually protects my ears. It becomes your first line of defence against audible stress."

Anyone who wants to check what I mean by extreme:

I am baffled!

I've seen MBV live. Super duper great band. But yeah, loud!!

I agree. Every time I attempted to drum and I have tried all kinds. Double ear protection custom made expensive ear molds with industrial cans on top. Mesh drum heads triggering a e drum module with volume to minimum with quiet cymbals. No matter what I would pay therefore I put it aside. Then again I can spazz no matter what I do. Just by existing...

He has been mentioned here before, but Chris Martin has been dealing with tinnitus for over ten years. I remember feeling bad for him because I couldn't imagine such a thing (lol) but the fact he's still out there doing all these amazing things does make me feel better. I remember he said he wears white noise generators and takes supplements too. Also mentioned his hasn't gotten much worse since onset, and he's played hundreds of shows since.

I've talked to a friend about my tinnitus recently and she told me that Keanu Reeves, a favorite of ours, apparently has it, too. Googled it and apparently it doesn't bother him anymore. It's crazy because I always wonder if things would be different if all of these celebrities would actually raise awareness and donate some of their income to research. It's definitely what I would do if I had that kind of power and influence. Sometimes it doesn't surprise me that habituation is being touted as a sufficient "cure".
