Favourite Song Lyrics

'Tis the Season! My favourite line is 'rooty-toot toots and rummy-tum tums'. Enjoy!

"Santa Claus Is Coming To Town"

You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is comin' to town, gather 'round

He's making a list
And checking it twice;
He's gonna find out who's naughty and nice
Santa Claus is comin' to town

(He sees you when you're sleeping)
(He knows when you're awake)
He knows if you've been bad or good
{So be good for goodness sake}!

{You better watch out}!
{You better not cry}
{Better not pout}
{I'm telling you why}
Santa Claus is comin' to town

(Little tin horns, little tin drums)
(Rudy-toot-toot and rummy tum tums)
(Santa Claus is comin' to town)

(And curly head dolls that cuddle and coo),
(Elephants, boats and kiddy cars too).
(Santa Claus is comin' to town).

The kids and girls in boy land
Will have a jubilee.
They're gonna build a toy land town
All around the Christmas tree.

(You better watch out), you better not cry).
(You better not pout), I'm telling you why).
(Santa Claus is comin' to town).

(He sees you when you're sleepin')
(And he knows when you're awake).
He knows when you've been bad or good,
So be good for goodness sake!

You better watch out!
(You better not cry)
You better not pout
(I'm telling you why)
{Santa Claus is comin' to town}

{You better watch out}!
{You better not cry}
{Better not pout}
{I'm telling you why}
{Santa Claus is comin' to town}

You mean, the big fat man with the long white beard
(He's comin' to town)
Well, you know Dasher, and Dancer, and Prancer, and Vixen
(Comet, and Cupid, and Donner and Blitzen)
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?

Is it Herman?
NO!
Is it Sherman?
NO!
Is it Eddy, is it Freddy?

NO! NO! NO! NO!
Is it Heart, is it Shaptler, is it Mosteres?
OH, YOU'LL NEVER NEVER GUESS IT, DON'T SNAP YOUR CAP
Talkin' 'bout Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
Oh, him
Had a very shiny nose
So I heard they say if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows
Like a hot rasie

All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
(Rudolph is a red nose)
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
"Hey Rudolph, I say Rudolph, with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then how the reindeer's loved him
And they shouted out with glee
(Rudolph, Rudolph, Rudolph)
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
You'll go down in history!

(Well, the stake glows bosset
His snarl snoot
His tuba that glow like a light-ta-root)
With his pink kazoo, he guided the sleigh
(He's a hero)
Why, Rudolph saved the day

Rudolph has got his red nose
In the reindeer hall of fame
Rudolph the red nosed favourite
Of the little reindeer days
Rudolph the North Pole big shot
Rides around in Santa's sleigh
Wearin' a green Fedora
Smoking a cigar all day

(This story has a moral
Anyone can plainly see)
Just keep your red nose a gleemin'
You'll go down in history

(If you keep you nose a red, red rose)
If you keep your beak all pink and sleek
And if you keep your snooze maroon because
You'll go down in history

Yikes Christmas, all related to some biblical god.

"I don't care if it rains or freezes
as long as I have my plastic Jesus
mounted on the dashboard of my car."

I heard a Miles Davis recording on the radio - there was a male vocalist who sang:

"Christmas is a time when the Greedy
Give a dime to the Needy."

Tragic story behind this beautiful song with such powerful lyrics. The song being a memorial to Erics son, Conor, who at 4 years old, fell 50 stories to his death from a NY City apartment building... unimaginable pain.

Would you know my name?
If I saw you in heaven
Would it be the same?
If I saw you in heaven

I must be strong
And carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven

Would you hold my hand?
If I saw you in heaven
Would you help me stand?
If I saw you in heaven

I'll find my way
Through night and day
'Cause I know I just can't stay
Here in heaven

Time can bring you down
Time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart
Have you begging please
Begging please

Beyond the door
There's peace, I'm sure
And I know there'll be no more
Tears in heaven

When I was just a lad looking for my true vocation
My father said "Now son, this choice deserves deliberation
Though you could be a doctor or perhaps a financier
My boy why not consider a more challenging career

Hey ho ho
You'll cruise to foreign shores
And you'll keep your mind and body sound
By working out of doors
True friendship and adventure are what we can't live without
And when you're a professional pirate

That's what the job's about!

Upstage, lads, this is my ONLY number!
Now take Sir Francis Drake, the Spanish all despise him
But to the British he's a hero and they idolize him
It's how you look at buccaneers that makes them bad or good
And I see us as members of a noble brotherhood

Hey ho ho
We're honorable men
And before we lose our tempers we will always count to ten
On occasion there may be someone you have to execute
But when your a professional pirate

You don't have to wear a suit!

I could have been a surgeon
I like taking things apart

I could have been a lawyer
But I just had too much heart

I could have been in politics
'Cause I've always been a big spender

And me
I could have been a contender

Some say that pirates steal and should be feared and hated
I say we're victims of bad press it's all exaggerated
We'd never stab you in the back, we'd never lie or cheat
We're just about the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet

Hey ho ho
It's one for all for one
And we'll share and share alike with you and love you like a son
We're gentlemen of fortune and that's what we're proud to be
And when your a professional pirate

You'll be honest brave and free
The soul of decency
You'll be loyal and fair and on the square
And most importantly

When you're a professional pirate
You're always in the best of company!

For some strange reason, I don't get alerts when you @ me. No worries though, I track all your posts. :)

Professional pirate is truth.

A few snippets:

If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you
When mountains crumble to the sea
There will still be you and me

Thank You - Led Zeppelin

So, so what'cha, what'cha, what'cha want?
I get so funny with my money that you flaunt
I said, "Where'd you get your information from" huh?
You think that you can front when revelation comes?

So What'cha Want? - Beastie Boys

Until the sky turns green
The grass is several shades of blue
Every member of parliament trips on glue

(Song For My) Sugar Spun Sister - Stone Roses

Chase And Status - Blind Faith
I am the man with the heavy heart, [X2]
Is a blind faith, a cruel waste, one bitter taste.
So I know I need this sweet sensation.

"Fear No Evil"

by Jimmy Nail

When the world is dark,
when the lights go down
When the demons walk,
when they're all around

There's a light that comes,
from a place on high
There's a light that comes,
that the angels shine

And it shines for you,
and it shines for me
And it shines for all,
and it shines for free

When the world is dark,
when the demons walk
There's a light that shines,
like a burning arc

And though I walk through
the valley of the shadow
I will fear no evil...

Since the dawn of time,
when the world began
We've borne witness to,
all the acts of man

How he ruled the earth,
when he learned to walk
How he learned to hurt,
when he learned to talk

And he's broken laws,
and he's broken dreams
And he's broken bones,
and ignored the screams

Through the longest day,
through the darkest night
There will always shine,
his redeeming light

And though I walk through
the valley of the shadow
I will fear no evil

...

"Pure Imagination" -By Gene Wilder

"Searching the darkness
and emptiness;
I'm hiding away from the sun.
Will never rest, never be at ease.
All my matter's expired, so I run.

A trail of sickness,
leading to me;
If I am haunted,
then you will see."

-Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth, from the song Reverie/Harlequin Forest

These past few years it has felt like those last four lines especially sum my life up very well.

Judith - A Perfect Circle

"You're such an inspiration for the ways
That I'll never ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you
How the savior has abandoned you
Fuck your God
Your Lord and your Christ
He did this
Took all you had and
Left you this way
Still you pray, you never stray
Never taste of the fruit
You never thought to question why

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you
Broken down and paralyzed
He did it all for you
He did it all for you

Oh so many many ways for me to show you
How your dogma has abandoned you
Pray to your Christ, to your god
Never taste of the fruit
Never stray, never break
Never choke on a lie
Even though he's the one who did this to you
You never thought to question why"

One of my favourite songs both lyrically and musically. Nothing against religion tho!

Another bit of lyrics from my favorite band has spoken alot to me lately too, that is:

Stranded - Gojira

"A growing sickness in the heart
Defective, lack of control
The cure is somewhere in the silence
But I'm crushed by the noise inside"

-Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth, from the song Reverie/Harlequin Forest
Mikael is one hell of a good musician, saw Opeth live in 2015! :rockingbanana:

I agree. :3

Seeing them live must've been cool.

I like A Perfect Circle and Gojira too, although I can't listen much to them (or Opeth for that matter) these days.

Orestes is my favourite A Perfect Circle-song, and Yellow Stone (with a bit of Magma) is my favourite Gojira-song.

I can see that I'm not the only fan of Maynard's art in there ;)

Forty Six and Two - Tool

Join in my
Join in my child
And listen, digging through
My old numb shadow
My shadow's shedding skin
I've been picking Scabs again
I'm down, digging through
My old muscles looking for a clue
I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been
I've been wallowing in my own confused
And insecure delusions
For a piece to cross me over
Or a word to guide me in
I want to feel the changes coming down
I want to know what I've been hiding
In my shadow
My shadow
Change is coming through my shadow
My shadow's
Shedding skin
I've been picking
My scabs again
Join in my
Join in my child
Shadow's
Closer to meaning
I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been
I've been wallowing in my own chaotic
Insecure delusions
I wanna feel the change consume me
Feel the outside turning in
I wanna feel the metamorphosis and
Cleansing I've endured in
My shadow
My shadow
Change is coming
Now is my time
Listen to my muscle memory
Contemplate what I've been clinging to
Forty six and two ahead of me
I choose to live and to
Grow, take and give and to
Move, learn and love and to
Cry, kill and die and to
Be paranoid and to
Lie, hate and fear and to
Do what it takes to move through
I choose to live and to
Lie, kill and give and to
Die, learn and love and to
Do what it takes to step through
See my shadow changing
Stretching up and over me
Soften this old armor
Hoping I can clear the way by
Stepping through my shadow
Coming out the other side
Step into the shadow
Forty six and two are just ahead of me

Time goes by
In the blink of an eye
But a moment filled with love
Lasts forever

"Like the echoes of your childhood laughter, ever after
Like the first time love urged you to take it's guidance, in silence
Like your heartbeat when you realise you're dying, but you're trying
Like the way you cry for a happy ending, ending, ending..."

Cause everybody's on drugs
Kill yourself is what they said to me
I'm already dead, just differently
They say God is real, I disagree
'Cause if that were true
Then we'd all be free, all be free, yeah, yeah
Running from something that's killing me
Dealing with such an uncomfortable feeling
Beginning to feel the hostility from my ability of slowly becoming the villain
I just wanna thank all my fans especially, without you is the death of me
I don't consider myself a celebrity, but I'll be doing this shit 'til I'm 70
This is my destiny, this is the best of me, it's an incredible feeling to grow
Letting it go, I'm letting you know, we're killing ourselves on the low
Everybody wants some, everybody gets none from me
'Cause everybody's on drugs
It's hard to believe, the American dream is a killing machine
We're all falling in love with a new disease
If it's killing you, then it's murdering me
It's all getting so unbelievable
We're having so much fun, staring down a loaded gun
And you don't see that it's killing you
'Cause everybody's on drugs
Save yourself is what I'm telling you
'Cause nobody else really has a clue
Into your veins, vein, like heroin
Accept the pain, pain just to feel again, feel again
Everybody wants some, everybody gets none from me
'Cause everybody's on drugs
It's hard to believe, the American dream is a killing machine
We're all falling in love with a new disease
If it's killing you, then it's murdering me
It's all getting so unbelievable
We're having so much fun, staring down a loaded gun
And you don't see that it's killing you

"I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends, they're in my head"

I imagine repeating this to myself for almost forever if my tinnitus ever disappeared.

So sad that Cobain felt it necessary to resort to the Final Solution regarding what was in his head.

Yeah, I watched a BBC programme last week with Dave. G, and Krist. N talking about how Kurt felt everything so deeply. Seemed like he was quite a nice dude actually. Shame he couldn't see that.
"I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends, they're in my head"
These are also some of my favourite ever lyrics. I just love Nirvana. I know people grown out of them, but I never did. I've recently been listening to a lot of Alice in Chains too.

Despite owning a two of their albums (pre-tinnitus), I always found Nirvana and the lyrics in their song's quite disturbing.

In fact, I've listened to lyrics by Black Metal bands swearing oaths to Satan that gave me less of a chill than some of Nirvana's.

But what always bothered me more than the lyrics, was KC's behaviour (outside the studio) and the imagery the band used. For example, the Heart-Shaped Box music video, even as an agnostic, leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

All that considered, they still only come second to Korn; who's entire discography is just WTF?

@Damocles, the lyrics I posted are from the band Falling In Reverse, song title Drugs. You should check it out, it's a little bit rock and rap. Plus Corey Taylor has a short verse also.

Thank you @Rockman.

I would if I could, but unfortunately I'm relegated to singing, and recreating in my head, music I knew and loved from memory, and new bands/modern music are now undiscoverable to me.

I've talked about this a few times: here, here, here and here.

So I've pretty much given up on listening to music for the time being; until the day tinnitus is (possibly) eliminated.

Up in the bar, in the back,
in the dark, I see people,
and they're huddled around a girl...

She is the one in the back of the bar with a photo,
of Nixon and Mary-Jane.

I am the one, in the back of the bar,
with my hat on...
I'm chilling with Mary-Jane.

She is the chick, who knew Dick,
and she kicks to me old-school,
like she gonna have a cow.

cow.jpg

It's alright, it's alright, it's alright, it's alriiiight,
when we're huddled around a girl.
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright, it's alriiiight,
when we're huddled around a girl.

You had a hold on me,
but just for a while,
and I finally found out,
what it is that you're all about.
You had a hold on me,
but just for a while,
and I finally found out,
what it is that you're all about.

Fuck the police coming straight for my underwear,
young brothers got it bad,
'cos they're brown.

and I finally found out,
what it is that you're all about.
You had a hold on me,
but just for a while,
and I finally found out,
what it is that you're all about.

Yeah I finally found out what it is that you're all about.
Yeah I finally found out what it is that you're all about.

I'm becoming less defined
As days go by
Fading away
Well you might say
I'm losing focus
Kind of drifting into the abstract
In terms of how I see myself

Sometimes I think I can see right through myself
Sometimes I think I can see right through myself
I think sometimes I can see right through myself

Less concerned
About fitting into the world
Your world that is
'Cause it doesn't really matter
No it doesn't really matter

No it doesn't really matter any more
None of this really matters any more
Yes, I am alone
But then again I always was

As far back as I can tell
I think maybe it's because
Because you were never really real
To begin with

I just made you up to hurt myself
I just made you up to hurt myself

Yeah, and I just made you up to hurt myself
I just made you up to hurt myself
Yeah, and I just made you up to hurt myself
And it worked

Yes it did
There is no you
There is only me
There is no you

There is only me
There is no fucking you
There is only me
There is no fucking you

There is only me
Only
Only
Only
Only

Well the tiniest little dot caught my eye
And it turned out to be a scab
And I had this funny feeling
Like I just knew it's something bad

I just couldn't leave it alone
Picking at that scab

It was a doorway trying to seal itself shut
But I climbed through

Now I am somewhere I am not supposed to be
And I can see things I never really should of seen
And now I know why
And now I know why
Things aren't as pretty
On the inside

There is no you
There is only me
There is no you
There is only me
There is no fucking you
There is only me
There is no fucking you
There is only me
Only
Only
Only
Only
Only
Only
Only
Only
Hi @Damocles.

I really like these lyrics, just reading it as poetry. I had never listened to the song till now.

Nine Inch Nails - Only.

Suffering tinnitus we become ghosts.

We also become cognizant of the inner workings of our own brains. And rest assured, we were never supposed to hear the cogs turning, @Daniel Lion.

Tom Waits - The Piano Has Been Drinking (Not Me)

Beautiful madness that keeps me sane...

The piano has been drinking, my necktie is asleep
And the combo went back to new york, the jukebox has to take a leak
And the carpet needs a haircut, and the spotlight looks like a prison break
And the telephone's out of cigarettes, and the balcony is on the make
And the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking

And the menus are all freezing, and the light man's blind in one eye
And he can't see out of the other
And the piano-tuner's got a hearing aid, and he showed up with his mother
And the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking
As the bouncer is a sumo wrestler cream-puff Casper milktoast
And the owner is a mental midget with the i.q. of a fence post
Cause the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking

And you can't find your waitress with a Geiger counter
And she hates you and your friends and you just can't get served without her
And the box-office is drooling, and the bar stools are on fire
And the newspapers were fooling, and the ash-trays have retired
Cause the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking
The piano has been drinking, not me, not me, not me, not me, not me
