Giving Up — I Just Can't Live Like This Anymore

Yeah I understand where you're coming from. I feel like most people just can't comprehend or truly understand the agony T can cause so the medical community isn't taking it seriously enough. I'm sure my case isn't even near the worst, yet I'm suffering terribly so imaging the possibility of getting worse or dealing with more pain than I can bare with no way out is unbearable.

And the worst of it is I got this so young so I'm scared of all the years I have ahead with T. The only thing giving me hope is that research is being done and there should be some kind of treatment option available in the future if a cure doesn't come along.

I understand you too completely !!!

Same for me... :(

At what age did you get T ?

Well my first bout happened when I was 14 actually just completely out of nowhere (no meds, never went to a concert, no colds, perfect hearing). I struggled a lot for about 6-9 months then I was okay. I think the sounds lessened or I habituated. For 6 years I was perfectly fine and never thought about it. I could hear it fairly loudly in the quiet but it just became normal to me it was like I didn't even have it.

I'm 20 now and after taking an antidepressant for issues unrelated to T I started hearing it again and having issues with fullness. Only now the sound is much louder and higher pitched. It feels electrical and sometimes my left ear feels like it vibrates. It's so frightening because it gets reactive and changes a lot too. How about you?

I am sorry that you got T at a very young age... :(

Did anyone in your family have troubles with their hearing ? It may come from there...

I also have quite a reactive T... But I don't completely understand it... I got it since November 2015...

Are there some things that can relax you, or bring you relief ?

Peace !

Christophe

My dad has Ménière's disease, which he was diagnosed with when he was around 50 but prior to that he had no ear issues no experiences with T despite going to so many loud metal concerts. Even as a baby I didn't have many ear problems.

However, I was terrified of loud sounds when I was young. I don't know why this is happening but I guess I have to deal with it. I hope habituation or a reduction in T is in my future. I was completely okay with my mild T when I first got it so I'm hoping once I can stop fixating on it I can move on with my life. I wish you the best stay strong keep fighting!

Ok so maybe your troubles can come from genetic proportions... background...

From my side I learned quite recently that my father has Tinnitus too... But he got it maybe at the age of 55 or something... And he doesn't have Hyperacousis...

Did you try MRI or anything else ?

I know how you feel and I'm sorry you have to go through this. I'm six years in with good and bad days. I pray you find peace and hope you feel better soon. Big hug.

Yeah I suppose genetics have something to do with it as well. I had an MRI back in 2011 when I had my first T experience and it came back fine so I doubt I'll get another one. None of the doctors I've seen have recommended to get one. My ENT thinks I have TMJ issues because my jaw was really inflamed when I went to see him and when he prescribed me ibuprofen it actually took away one of the sounds I hear in my left ear.

My jaw often feels tired and sometimes sore and it's been kind of clicky recently but I'm not too hopeful that remedying the TMJ will fix the T, but who knows. I think it's related to the AD I started to take this May. I'm hoping I'll just get a reduction in sound and then I'll go on protecting my ears as much as I can and hope a reliable treatment method comes out. Did your T come out of the blue as well?

Thank you! I just want to feel more at peace. I've been so afraid of this and the possibility of not being able to cope. I miss my old life so much. Hope you have more and more good days!

Hello jadebug,

I have to do exercices to help relax my jaws... Do you do any exerces on your side ?

It can help I am sure !

Hi little Jadebug!!

You can do that again. I read a few posts back about the boyfriend issue. At a young age this hurts a lot. I understand that so much. The best thing for you to do is focus on yourself and your goals and do steps to reach them. I still think you will be an excellent nurse and this experience will be able to help you understand your patients. But...hard to understand that right now at your age. You will remember this in about ten years.

The boyfriend thing.....it hurts I get that. Makes you feel more alone as he goes on doing whatever it is he is doing with friends and not being there for you now. That is just the way it is when you are younger. The best thing is to move on with your goals.

I know it does not sound easy right now...but the tinnitus will be a memory thing for you. It will probably fade as you become more aware of what to do. Working on the jaw issues may help you quite a bit.

I actually don't do any exercises. I'm still waiting on my TMJ guard. Do you have any exercises you recommend?

Thank you so much for the post! Yeah the issues with my boyfriend are very challenging and we've been going through a really rough patch (unrelated to T as well). It's just I have so much stress already that the tinnitus feels like my breaking point. It feels like I have no peace at all. I'm so anxious all of the time and feels like I'll never get used to this. Do you really think I'll get used to my T even though it's really loud? I'm so scared my life is going to be haunted by this and I won't be able to enjoy anything anymore or relax. I miss relaxing so much. I'd give anything just to be able to lay down in peace and not hear constant ringing.

I went to a specialist to have my jaws checked...

After she recommanded to go to a physiotherapist to help me with exercices to do everyday and massages... :)

I suggest you can do the same !

Otherwise you may find some exercices on Internet, writing "Exercices to help relax the jaws"... ;)

Take care !
