Hey all I recently got tinnitus last Friday. I lost hope of this ringing going away even tho it only been a week. The sucky part is I'm only 15 and now I got this. Hopefully it will go away in the future but first ima need to learn how to cope with it. Can anyone show me support. I appreciate it
God bless you
A week is nothing, well you and I both know that a week with Tinnitus is like a lifetime but hear me out.
Generally it's widely accepted that it takes 1 year for Tinnitus to truly be deemed chronic, in the period of that 1 year anything can happen.
For instance, in the beginning 3 months my Tinnitus was decreasing a lot, now I can barely notice it unless I want too, it doesn't bother me while I'm studying in quiet, or sleeping, then it spiked a little bit nothing terrible, and now I'm back to mild Tinnitus, now the funny thing is in the morning my Tinnitus is really really low, if I go into the bathroom and in complete silence just listen I can only hear this faint air sound, but since I have sound sensitivity and my Tinnitus is a bit reactive once I get a few sounds in it changes from being faint air sounds to faint air sounds and a really faint ring, but again this is only in the bathroom in complete silence otherwise unless I listen to it on purpose at times I have to remind myself that I have Tinnitus because I have grown used to it not completely but mostly.
I've had Tinnitus for 4-5 months now and that's still early, if you read Srdjan's story you can see that his Tinnitus went in 9 months.
Don't worry.
As for tips on how to deal.
1.) Accept it now that it's here to stay( in most likely hood it isn't but the sooner you accept it and stop counting the days until it's gone the sooner you'll lose interest about it once you lose interest in it your brain just shuts it out like it does with your nose, it's still there, if you look for it you can find it but you don't really care) this is what's called habituation.
2.) Avoid LOUD noises, not noises just loud noises, generally if it's loud enough that you have to speak loudly in order for someone to hear you it's loud otherwise don't worry.
3.) Do not panic like I did and start monitoring shit, this is what I believe gave me my sound sensitivity monitoring like crazy every little sound, now my limbic system is all out of whack.
4.) Don't over protect a lot of people do this and in turn get hyperacusis because they make themselves believe all little sounds hurt them, it also screws with the ears, ears need sound so just put on some nice music or something.
5.) Stay away from otoxic drugs generally aspirin, ibuprofen and stuff like that, if you have headaches drink water.
6.) Get some magnesium/b12/b6/zinc these 4 help with the cells, magnesium helps with everything and almost everyone has a lack of magnesium so you should start taking magnesium supplements.
That's about it, just don't panic the best you can I know how bleak it may seem now but trust me it's not.
Also don't be afraid of ups and downs because God knows you'll have them so many times.
Just follow these tips, if you're feeling angry work out or vent here, stay away from extremely loud noises and just live life I promise you by doing all this in time you will recover 100% with or without your Tinnitus leaving.
