Tinnitus Since

Cause of Tinnitus
Ear injury (paintball) 1991. 2017 > Onwards Cause? Not sure.
Although I have made progress, I can easily get locked into thought patterns which bring me crashing down to the ground in a massive heap of tears and sorrow.

It seems to me and my basic psychology that I am grieving for the old self who had none of the problems I have now. Tinnitus in its early stages is like grieving I think.

The most annoying thing I have found is that my sense of humor has vanished, and everything seems ultra serious and annoying.

Cheers.

Sorry to hear that. I do understand what you are saying though. I often find myself thinking about all the things I did without thinking twice, just a couple of months ago. Can just hope that it is a passing thing, even though times seems pretty dark at the moment.

Hopefully you'll find yourself laughing as you used to soon enough, even though I do belive you have to give yourself time to grieve and adjust. But after all, they do say that time heals everything.

Yes my friend. Lets hope time is the great Doctor.

Good luck to you.

It is understandable that you feel this way @monkey legs For this reason some people need counselling to cope with the loss of their old life before tinnitus. Or, if they've had it a while as in your case and it has got worse. I have been in this situation twice. When I first got tinnitus in 1996 and when it got worse in 2008 and took 4 years to recover and habituate. My tinnitus still isn't like it was prior to this. The way I dealt with it on both occasions was not to look back and dwell over the past, because there is nothing that I can do to change what has happened. I look forwards and try to get what I can out of life. Whenever the clouds of doubt come over me or negativity wants to take a hold. I look back and see how far I have come, and say to myself things could be a lot worse.

Wise words Michael. I will say one thing Tinnitus certainly is a teacher when it comes to psychology. I know we all have a self image, but having T makes it crystal clear.

Cheers.

Tinnitus is indeed a teacher @monkey legs It has made me a stronger person and to appreciate what I have in life. It has shown me what distress can do to a person when I've listened to them on the telephone explaining the turmoil they are in with this condition and no-one understands. It has shown me the relief, and happiness a person can feel when they've habituated and got their life back.

You have tinnitus since 1991?
I read your posts and i do not understand.
You say
Tinnitus in its early stages is like grieving I think.
Only now you say
I'm going to have a CT scan in a couple of weeks to double check the ears, and see if there is anything else going on.

Please explain.
I am curious to know more about your story.

Hi Dana,

I had low Tinnitus since 1991 which wasnt a problem for me. Dec 2017 some kind of infection made the Tinnitus get really loud, hence my new problems etc.

Cheers.

@monkey legs
I understand now, thank you for taking the time.
So the ear injury is not the cause of this severe T that you are struggling right now, but the sinuses problems, which is great news, because the injury sequels have been, now i can say it, impossible to fix.
About the sinuses problems, i would like to say this: do not trust an imaging test, like sinuses CT (a CT made to view the sinuses) as an indicator. Many times sinusitis persists although is not visible in any test.
I think your problems stem from inflammation, either from sinusitis, or an infection in other place, maybe even ears.
This is good news, because this can be fixed.
Even an inflammation invisible in tests can cause bad tinnitus.
You may even have, from the inflammation, Eustachian Tubes Dysfunction, which gives terrible tinnitus. ETD is also sometimes invisible to clinical examination or tests like tympanogram.
You have a chance of eliminating the cause of your loud tinnitus.
I used ParaSinus Penta and i noticed a difference. It contains paracetamol, (and cafeine, not good for tinnitus), clorhidrat of phenilephrine (steroid anti-inflammatory), terpinhidrate and ascorbic acid.
Did you take antibiotics for your sinus problems?

You need to address more the ENT area, more than the psychological consequences of the tinnitus. Further, better healing may be possible of the ENT organic problems, which may bring your T down.

IMO.
