Cause of Tinnitus
Noise/Trama
I was reading some posts here and have some questions. I have a high pitch ringing in my ears and is usually loud. I have been to my doctor, Ear Nose Throat Specialist, had scans, an MRI and no answers. Has anyone here managed to actually find a way to help lower tinnitus? I have masking tracks I use sometimes but they don't seem to help much. Oh what to do. I am 17. Is this going to continue or get worse?

Hi Breezer. I'm afraid the only cure is to marry a man who has a nice motorcycle. ;)

A very good post from @Michael Leigh is there with great insight and information. I highly suggest you take the time to read it. Stay positive!

What was the cause and how long ago did it happen?

Protecting your hearing should help prevent it from getting worse providing loud noise was cause.

High pitch T is difficult to mask. Things like crickets or cicadas do a better job at 'masking' high pitch tones.

Hi Breezer,

Welcome to the board!

Sorry that you are dealing with tinnitus at such a young age.

Have you been sick? Been exposed to any loud sounds/music/concerts? Been at high altitudes (either on plane or mountains)? Riding on long trips with the windows opened? Taking any medications? Had dental work? Experienced head/neck trauma?

Aside from Michael's excellent reference, the best thing to do is to keep calm while limiting your anxiety and stress levels to it. Also, getting a good night's rest is important! Be positive!!

My ringing began after falling off of one of my horses at an event. I took a blow to the head that was quite loud. I always wore my helmet and riding glasses and never felt like I injured my head. I am always careful with music and such. A few times I have been places that were noisy for awhile but nothing weird. Never took medications except for when I had the flu at times. Sometimes I had a tylenol for a headache. I stopped riding professionally and only ride for fun and exercise now. My horses need a good run now and then. I have 2 horses. I swim a lot and ski a lot. I jog all the time if the weather is good. Try to eat good most times. Now with this noise it's harder to sleep and very distracting with company.

I have the cricket soundtrack and a bunch of other masking files. I have a fan in my bedroom I like to run at night to help mask my ringing so I can nod off. Just seems to keep getting a little louder over time. Kinda scary.

I've had tinnitus for over 7 years (since I was 29). Maybe yours is worse than mine but mine is high pitched and constant. It hasn't gotten worse since I noticed it 7 years ago. Are you positive that it is getting louder? It could be in your head. I am a musician so my hearing is so important to me and it is crucial that my tinnitus doesn't get worse. I go through periods of anxiety where I think it is getting worse but I've realized that overall it has been pretty consistent over the years. Coffee, excessive sugar, alcohol and loud noise make mine temporarily worse. I know that you said that you eat healthy but maybe something in your diet could still change?

Yes mine seems to slowly be increasing. It is also a high pitch sound in both ears it seems. Feels like it starts at the ear and ends up in the back of my head where the two pitches collide. Just weird.

I have changed about as much in my diet as I care too. Lower sodium, eating more fresh fruits n veggies, less red meat, more fish, stay away from fast foods, and cook from scratch a lot. I like to make sure my digestive system is working well with the right bacteria intake ( yogurt and supplements ). Caffeine free coffee. Have the odd soda but not often. I protect my hearing and tinnitus from loud places and avoid whenever possible. I keep popping in here now and then to see if anyone found any help with anything. So far nothing seems to lower mine other than masking to take my mind off of it.

Thanks for replying and hope we can all benefit from these conversations and treatment suggestions in time.

Love you all.
