Here Is How I Solved My Tinnitus — New Protocols and Supplements To Try

Engineer: can you describe the sounds of your T. I have constant sounds of air blowing out of my ear, mostly the right, watery sound like a fish tank, louder when I am sitting, much lower volume when I stand or walking, buzz upon waking, goes away when I get out of bed, and sometimes a heartbeat in my ear. It started out in February this year as a loud roar. Don't know why. It is lots of pressure. Had a CT scan done. ENT was not impressed. Says I have pulsitile T. My GP tells me to get a hearing aid. So did this ENT. I had a hearing test done and i have minimal hearing loss in my ears. Early on I felt a PPP In my right ear and the mouse stopped for a few
Minutes. It came back and has been here forever. My instincts tell me it is pressure. The water sound is in right ear only. The left ear just started to get the air rushing sound. Also, my right ear is itchy deep within. And way back in the right side of my throat it itches. I can only reach it with my toothbrush. Wonder if that is where the eustacian tube is? Any suggestions. Also, early on, I felt pain in my right ear for one day. I am going to see new ENT specialists in August. But I think I may have what you describe.

I would urge anyone thinking of trying engineerLA's water technique to be extremely cautious.
I tried it (saline+valsalva) a week ago and not only has it made my T slightly worse, it's also done something strange to my ?middle ear, such that when I swallow "wrongly", I get a loud, full sensation in my T ear that's woken me up the last couple of nights.
(I'd be interested in anyone's views - e.g. @davidchampoux? - as to whether this might be a permanent impairment. Thanks.)

Hello
how are you

Can you send me the name of the doctor and which hospital please. I live in los angeles too.

My ENT's are no good at all. Didn't even bother to refer me to do some MRI or scans.

I used methylprednisolome (low dose) for 7 days with antibiotics when i had a flu (Prescribed by a general practitioner) And my T dissapeared after at the 6th day. But came back 2 days later when i finished the pills.

I asked my ENT how come my T dissapeard, she said "I don't know". She wasn't even willing to think. She just told me i had allergies and gave me a nasal spray.

To be fair, engineerLA does emphasise that this is an advanced technique, i.e. there is an implication that only people who know what they are doing should try it.

But you are right: extreme caution is advised.

For me, things went back to normal 4-5 weeks after my 'injury' with saline water. I took prednisone and antibiotics (eardrum was a little reddish). I've been REALLY scared. I won't try this kind of treatment anymore, that's for sure.

I would like to know how to identify a T caused by allergies or eustachian tube problems... Is there any trick?

I agree with gavster. I tried the water technique and heard the squeak like described. My tinnitus is now screaming and can be heard above most other noises. It also seems to have started a low t in my right ear which was fine before. I'm scared that I've done permanent damage. Nightmare.

This sounds promissing. I'll be seeing a ENT tommorrow my simptoms are as follow:

Had mild tinnitus since 2012. Last week it became a lot louder. I have a constant high pitch wistle tone around 8500 hz mostly in my right ear. I do have some mild hearing los in my right ear and a lot of wax (all my life) I also have a blocked noise all the time as long as I can remmember.

I can increase the volume when i tens my jaw mussles.

I seem to suffer from sweating (at night ) and have sweating hands. This coincided with my increase of volume of my tinnitus.
Also my spine (the upper part) is like a huncback. ;)

I'll see what my pharmapill pusher says tommorrow and then I will above methods a try.

Thx!

hiya,

i want to confirm that this method gives me some hope. it seems to work, especially advanced method 7 (at least for some time)

what i do i use sinugator (netty pot with batteries), tilt my head to the left, then do valsalva manuveur until i hear crackling water in my left ear. as suggested it gives almost immediate relief, silencing quite a bit tinnitus for some time and allowing me to sleep (however when i woke up at night it intensified and stayed with me, maybe not as much as usual though)

i also bought tumeric capsules and monolaurin - will give a try

here's my brief strony: i had mild tinnitus for 11 years after bad flu. tinnitus didn't bother me as i could hear only at night and not low intensity. 5 weeks ago i woke up with sinuses filled up and since then my tinnitus is much worse. now i want to try everything to go back to my old tinnitus

engineerLA.. if you still read this forum, my question would be how often did you do advanced method before getting rid of tinnitus for good? also, do you think it's possible to be successful with this method without antibiotics? my gp won't give me. i also use nasal steroid spray, but not sure if it helps much

All of this might be placebo...now, having said that .

I always wake up with insane T , so it seems something happens while I am sleeping.

So....after realizing that I get a strange crackling noise in my left ear when swallowing and also get a loud squeal in my left ear when doing the valsalva I started to do the valsalva whenever T was killing me , this seemed to help.
So I decided to start trying this neti pot method again , its strange , sometimes it will give me immediate relief.
The other night it gave me COMPLETE silence , it was pure friggin heaven.
After I started doing this I got a week of almost silence ...until , I did this one night , fell asleep like a baby with 99% silence , but then I woke up to 10/10 T and I have had a hard time getting it under control since then.

Last night I did this again , HUGE relief but woke up with very bad T .

Conclusion... It does indeed do "something" ... not sure how to proceed?

FWIW... My T has been very non-intrusive for the last three months especially, which has coincided with vigorous daily use of a neti pot and using an antihistimene. My T is there still but I think not as noticeable because the middle ear dysfunction that makes it more noticeable is not as drastic. That's my theory as to why you doing some of this stuff would help. I've also gone since early August having any type of long-lasting cold while people around me have been sick with colds all fall, and that's coming off the last two years where I was basically sick with one cold after another for about a year and a half.

I am going to an ENT tomorrow to discuss these symptoms - crackle when I swallow and the fact that valsalve helps as well at the neti pot . I fully expect nothing to come from that but will post.
I am also doing the neti pot in 10 minutes , had an horrible day , if it helps then I am definitely on to something here.

Yep...20 minutes after the neti pot and I can hardly hear it !??!?
Having said that ...T has a nasty habit of messing with me and making me think bullshit .

@RaZaH keep us updated! I have the crackling too and would love to find a way to make it stop. Happened to me after a night out, not sure if it was from the loud noise that ended up causing a spike or my earplugs creating a pressure difference in my ear.

Yeah I think its normal to a degree, but it got louder. I asked my mom to listen close to my head when I did it and she said she can hear it

@RaZaH
@Bertman

Just wondering if you experience the same as me, it's almost like a computer mouse click but sharper and louder, in both ears upon swallowing?
I had it last year for a week maybe but now it's just going on over a month and not getting better!
I would like to know what is this??!!!
Bloody ears:(

sounds like Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. Typically brought on by colds, sinus issues, allergies, etc. Often can get some relief through things like allergy shots, decongestants, anti-histamines, nasal steroids, neti-potting, etc. I had sinus surgery a few months back and it helped a great deal. Much less crackling when I swallow now. Maybe down by 80-90%. T still here... guess you can't ask for everything....

My ENT visit today was quite interesting , not least the fact that it turned out the he was not an ENT :p
He was some kind of Dr of audiowhatchamacallit ... In any event , we talked for almost 2 hours.
This guy has a lot of gadgets , and can do an hearing test up to 20khz.
He was very interested in what I told him about Trobalt and Keppra.

What amazed me was that he said the he was getting an ENT next door so people could go and visit an ENT that would give them more than 5 minutes. He said that his minimum session was an hour and up to 3 hours of testing.

And get this ....when I left and pulled out my wallet , he said " no...you don't pay until we start working on this"
I can hardly believe this guy ?!

Ok ok... so, if Engineer is still here or anyone else...

7 days ago, all of a sudden and out of the blue I've suddenly started experiencing highpitched tinnitus, 14khz to 16khz. It was 12/10, from the middle of my head. Sometimes it moved from the left to the right, and back again.. sort of 30/70, 60/40, etc.. The tinnitus has definitely settled a bit, but it gets worse and gets better and worse again...
If I open my mouth wide, as if yawning, it doesnt really change the volume much (though it does seem to increase), but pitch goes up. Same when I move my jaw forward or clench my teeth. This all has me very interested.
I'm going to try the methods as described by Mr. Engineer, and will press my GP for prednisone just to see if that will have an affect. If indeed it does, then we're on to something for sure.

Does all this sound like ETD to any of you?

To add, I've had blood tests, 3 doctors exams, and even a CT scan... all normal. Never han issue like this before and BAM al of a sudden I get tinnitus so bad that I could of jumped off a bridge.

Hi EngineerLA,

I just got tinnitus like 15 minutes ago from using my neilmed rinse. I got the popping noise and now whenever I blow my nose that is stuffed, both ears pop, but the right side does it more. It sounds like I have water in my ear. I don't have any ringing sound, only a popping noise when I blow my nose hard and this only happens when I plug my left nostril and blow from my right nostril. Is this normal? Will it get better?

Also, I used the neilmed nasal rinse on my 12 month child ever since he was an infant, I notice that sometimes he keeps rubbing the inside of his ears, do you think my child could also be suffering from tinnitus? He's had his well-child check ups, but they say his ears are fine and he seems to be hearing well. Thanks!

I have this crackling clicking and can make it happen by putting a sort of pressure on the back of my tongue if you get me.

Done a lot of research on this i sadly do not believe its ETD think its just part of the Tinnitus ride we are all on,

Ive done neti pots ,earpopper ,steam etc etc etc never touches it,Plus ENT pressure tests that are normal

Just an update on my original posts above. My T is completely gone. It took a long time and came and went a few times. The methods I posted in this thread do help - and also you should be extremely cautious with them as they can make things temporarily worse for a while in the process. In the end, what helped the most was reducing inflammation and reducing infection in the Eustachian tube / middle ear. All of the methods I posted were designed for that. However, I think it is beneficial to also take antibiotics if you are going to be pushing water into your eustachian tubes in order to minimize infection. Anyone with T who suspects eustachian tube dysfunction should try a course of antibiotics to see if it helps - in my case it definitely helped (in concert with nasal steroid spray and allergy meds to reduce inflammation). Of course not all forms of T will respond to this and you do have to be careful not to puncture your eardrum doing the valsalva with water too many times or too firmly! In any case, the antibiotics and anti-inflammatories on their own will probably solve this for most people.

Hello and thank you for all the effort and the information you have provided, it truly is inspirational.

What made me open my mouth in reply was the fact that turmeric/curcumin was suggested in the original post. I have used a curcumin extract in the past in conjunction with another natural remedy, resveratrol, for another problem.

Have you or anyone researched Resveratrol? It's supposed to be highly anti-inflammatory and curcumin is thought to have a positive compounding effect when taken in conjunction. Any thoughts on this? Already an explored subject?

Thank you again!

I have tried resveratrol just to help overalll health. It hasnt "helped" my tinnitus.

Can I ask: I got a myringotomy yesterday which clears the ear of fluid, but the ringing didn't stop, in fact I believe it got worse. My ears have been through a lot in the past month, coming off Sertraline, getting my ears irrigated, getting a URI, and then being exposed to loud noise, all in that order. My question is, and I hope you can answer engineerLA, is which of these things caused it?
