Hi Cole,
So if I understand you correctly, right now:
- You don't hear any noises; you are enjoying absolute silence.
- Your ears feel full and painful, with pressure.
- You are very sensitive to loud noises.
Most people who have to contend with persistent Tinnitus that lasts more than 6 months are ordinarily dealing with
constant Tinnitus; that is to say, there are high pitched whistles, ringing, clicking, etc., noises that
are always there, and have no physiological basis (because Tinnitus is, at its core, a neurological malfunction that can be caused by any number of things). You don't seem to have that: you have intermittent Tinnitus, if that, and right now are dealing with pain, fullness, and hyperacousis (extreme sensitivity to loud sounds). This is fairly typical for people who also have Tinnitus, so it's hard to say that it is that you really have.
Nevertheless, if you've been dealing with long-term ear discomfort, seeing an ENT is usually the very first step to trying to figure out if this can be diagnosed, if at all. Meniere's Disease can definitely manifest with a number of symptoms, including fleeting or transient Tinnitus that comes and goes, though most people who suffer from Meniere's also have debilitating vertigo, especially during the first year, and this vertigo tends to come and go.
I'd be very interested in hearing what your ENT has to say. For now, stay hydrated, get plenty of sleep, and take good care of yourself. If you're enjoying silence, then you're really quite fortunate.
