Cause of Tinnitus
Hit in ear by hand
Last week on the 29th I was hit in my left ear hard. Slapped. And instantly hurt and heard ringing in my ears. For 2 days my hearing was muffled and couldn't hear to well the 3rd day my hearing got better in my ear. From that day on and now I have been hearing a constant buzz and humming noise in the left ear I was hit in, but only when it's quiet.

Went to a doctor on Thursday he looked at it said there is no infection or hole in ear drum he said all he saw is dried up blood in my ear and said it is bruised did not give me any medicine or spray.

Could I have fluid still in my ear even if i do not have a hole in my ear drum or infection?

Should i ask for spray?

How long till bruised ear drum heals?

Will the buzzing sound go away I am only 23?

Thank you for answers.

Hi Jonathan,

Welcome to the site.

Did you go to your family doctor or ENT? If you have not been to the ENT, I would suggest making an appointment with him or her and definitely get a hearing test while you're there as well. It is important to get an accurate hearing test so that way you conclusively know if there is damage to your hearing due to the trauma.

If in fact you do have hearing loss, you will have reason to sue the perpetrator if you so choose. That is question up to you.

As for the ringing going away, one cannot say for sure. Specifically, if it is due to hearing loss, it may not.

In the meantime, do not panic; you will be fine! Also, be sure to check out this site and use it as the vast resource it is! Good luck.

Welcome to the forum. The first 3 of your questions should be answered by the doctor(s). Like Mike replied above, no one knows for sure if the ringing will disappear. It is possible. Even if it doesn't, the sound may fade in intensity over time, and you may also learn to habituate to the sound. In the mean time, if the ringing bothers you, try masking it with some soothing sounds. Here are some masking suggestions:

1) Mask at bed time so you can sleep better. Find whatever sounds/music that are soothing to you. You can use a sound machine or sound pillow for this, or a computer with speakers.

2) If you need masking on the go, try load an ipod with nature sounds or music using itune. If you have a smart phone, you can download free APPs for soothing or T-masking sounds.

3) If you have computer and speakers, you can try these excellent masking sounds too:

TT's audio player: https://www.tinnitustalk.com/audioplayer/

or this online sound library, particularly the self-mix nature sounds: https://mynoise.net

or download free sound generator 'aire freshener': http://www.peterhirschberg.com/mysoftware.html

or search youtube with words like 'tinnitus masking sounds', 'white noise', 'rain sound' etc.

Got hit in my ear on the 29th of december with a slap to the ear went to doctor last thursday they said that i had dry blood in my ear and no ruptured ear drum or infection but the buzzing in my ear where i got hit wont go away its a very quiet buzz i can only hear it when i go to sleep. Is it hear to stay? Or will it dissaper does my ear still need more healing? It is still sensative to noise.

I would play it safe for a while, and limit exposure to loud noise just in case. Personally I would think it would go away eventually, but there's no way to tell.
