Hi everyone! I needed to come somewhere where what I'm going through would be completely understood. It's so hard to explain to anyone who has never experienced this to really empathize or give good helpful information.

My tinnitus only started a couple weeks ago. I was feeling rather congested and stuffy and my left ear started to chirp like crickets quietly, especially at night. It really freaked me out at first, I've never had ear infections or issues so I ended up at the doctors. Mild infection, put on amoxicillin and told to take decongestants. Well all that was over last week and now I have high pitched tinnitus in both ears during the day on and off. The crickets in my left ear still. And now a strange hissing/buzzing sound which seems, as of right now, to appear later in the day and get really uncomfortable until I fall asleep. That's new for the past 3 days. The cycle repeats. Every day I get nervous for what's next.

Part of me says oh well who cares, I've got a job to do and a young family to raise. But it's taking its toll and I know this is only the beginning.

My ENT said my hearing and ears look good. Maybe just a "little" fluid. Say to give it a few months. That's all. Any advice or stories like mine, what helped, what didn't would be great.

I tried Claritin D, which only made it 100% worse. I also recently came off a low dose of Prozac which I had only been on for 3 weeks so I'm not sure if the new hissing sound is from that. Permanent or not?! So many variables, I'm not sure what to think or do. I know I'm not supposed to think or worry about it, but since it's all new to me it's hard to focus on much else. Thanks for your support.

@bandit0524 ,
Try steam inhalation and take Sudafed to clear your tubes.
Prozac could have caused it and as your brain adjusts it should settle down again.
Keep posting for support...love glynis

Welcome to the forum! You are handling your situation quite well for someone that just got tinnitus. At first all of us were nervous and a bit scared about the new ringing and sound that is coming out our heads. It's not natural to go from silence to some odd sounds, that only we can hear.

Just do know that it is perfectly normal to feel this way. All of us felt this way and to some degree still do. Tinnitus takes some time to adjust to. Every day can be a step closer to coping and habituation. It takes effort to make it happen, I will not lie. It may seem hard at first, but you can eventually get a grip on this matter. Just take caution and protect your ears from LOUD sounds.

Certain meds can cause ringing in the ears, so that is not unusual either. Do know that you are never alone here, all of us are here to help each other at all times :)
