Hip Hop Music Thread

One of my favorite Mobb tracks. Actually a diss record to Havoc and Prodeje of South Central Cartel. They felt they bit their names off them. That's why Prodigy says "Prodigy turning n's to protégés". This was during the East West beef. They of course dissed Tupac on the album on a Drop a Gem On Em and I think elsewhere. Been a long time since I listened to that album.

A bit newer stuff but some more favorites

I'm a big Murs fan. Used to listen to a lot of Currensy but lost interest. Not much up on Nipsey RIP. I don't like Kendrick beyond Section 80 lol. Not much on his crew in general. Seen Larry June posted on a Hip Hop website I was a member of for a long time. Since tinnitus, hyperacusis and TTTS I really don't listen to nearly as much music though. So I haven't checked him out.

Billy Woods-Hiding Places is really the only album I've been listening to lately in short spurts.

I live in Columbus, Ohio. Yellow Springs where he lives is about an hour outside of town. Real quaint little town. I've been there a few times to dig for records at Toxic Beauty. No Chapelle sightings though lol.
I love Dave Chapelle! Growing up we didn't have cable but I remember his show always being on late night, I used to always watch it when I was in high school. He had a show here where I live and it sold out in minutes. My old roommate saw him out and about the city one time, but didn't approach him because Dave apparently isn't big on chatting with fans in the street. I totally get it though.

One of my fav Murs songs:

I'm a big Curren$y fan, lost interest in the stuff he was putting out around 2014-2016 or so. But he's good. He was on my list of people I wanted to see before my ear issues. Seems like a super chill dude, just enjoys his cars and music.

I feel the same way about Kendrick, I did enjoy some stuff of of DAMN though. Ab-Soul is meh, Jay Rock not for me. Q I think also had some good stuff around 2013 or so but overall I stopped listening to them a while back.

Larry June is cool, he's from SF where I life so it's cool to see all the locations in his music videos and whatnot. I saw him perform at a music festival this past September.

I also don't listen to music much these days :(

Showroom is one of my favorites too. I loved all his collabs with Wiz. How Fly is one of my favorite mixtapes.

The Jet Life stuff was fire too.

Last one for today I promise! Lol. I haven't enjoyed music in such a long time, it makes me sad now as it's what ruined my life. But this one is good. I used to listen to it over and over just because I liked the beat. The first time I actually listened to it all the way through, I cried.

I posted my favorite Atmosphere song in here already, "Became". Slug is a great story teller

Also love this one.

Love the steel guitar.

This one is actually a true story and really sad.

http://www.marissamission.org/marissa.html

"On July 16th, 2003, Marissa and her friends attended a show in Albuquerque, NM of the Minneapolis based, hip hop group, Atmosphere. Marissa enjoyed the night out with her friends, arriving in a limo, dancing barefoot, singing, and wearing one of her wild creations and her bright smile across her face. At one point during the evening she stepped on a piece of glass and went in seek of first aid. An employee of the theater, claiming to be a security guard took her upstairs, offering to help her. She went willingly, completely unaware that this would be the last time she would ever see her friends. This was one time where her openness, her trust in humanity and her free-spirited nature would not bring her closer to the world but would cost her everything.
Marissa's life was taken from her that night, by the man who had offered to help her. Already a convicted sex-offender he had "slipped through the cracks" in the New Mexico Judicial system and had never served any jail time. He was on probation and was not supposed to be anywhere near young people. Why was he not in jail serving a sentence for his previous rape? Why was he allowed to work in a theater that swarms local youth frequented? Who was supposed to be watching him? The answers to these questions are not simple, but Marissa's loved ones vowed that there would be no second time for this nightmarish crime."
