How to Reverse Hyperacusis Worsening? Plus, What's the Loud Crackling When I Swallow / Yawn?

Back in November, I came out from a job interview at a construction company. Between the loud conversation and the fog horn going off outside, it impacted my tinnitus and hyperacusis. The tinnitus eventually baselined, but the hyperacusis got way worse.

About a week after the event, I noticed my swallowing sounds seemed louder than usual. Weeks pass and now every time I swallow or yawn, I hear a crackling sound, like an empty plastic water bottles going off inside my ear. Months go by, and the loud crackling during swallowing and yawning seem to only get worse.

I went to Urgent Care yesterday to finally see if they could at least make any visual confirmation.

Nothing. No inflammation. No noticeable fluid.

My next visit will be with my ENT.

The reason I waited so long was because I had just resigned myself to the fact that my hyperacusis had turned up and now I'm sensitive to noises inside as well as outside.

Does any have any experience with what I'm dealing with?

Hi @Lando

You need to reduce your exposure to overly loud sound to help prevent the hyperacusis getting worse. You are doing the right thing by making an appointment to see your ENT doctor. I recommend that you see an Audiologist that specialises in tinnitus and hyperacusis management. Please click on the links below and read my posts.

Do you have pain or loudness hyperacusis?

I'm not sure. Can you explain the difference?

My hyperacusis doesn't cause pain, it just makes me flinch and my eardrums explode.
