Cause of Tinnitus
Started as a cold
Hello everyone, I recently got Pulsatile Tinnitus about 5 months back in the beginning of January. I had a sinus cold that snowballed into sinusitis.

I admit i ignored it for a while hoping my sinuses would clear on its own. I saw my gp and she gave me an antibiotic injection, and steroid injection, also took a 10 day course of oral antibiotics. Sinus pressure and sinus pain around my eyebrows and under eye area went away.

I'm still left with pt and ear pressure/ pain. The PT only in my left ear but I feel fullness and slight pain in right ear from time to time. Tonight the pt is roaring in my left ear. I'm 35 year old female who is pretty much healthy and I do not consume alcohol or smoke.

I recently had blood work done and waiting on my results. I'm thinking of setting up an appointment with an ENT first thing in the morning.

I don't know anyone who has experienced this before so I am reaching out to anyone who understands what I am going through.

I have been at my wits end with pt. I wake up with it and fall asleep with it roaring in my left ear. I do find that if I apply pressure on the bottom of ear the soft spot, I cannot hear the pt. But it comes back when I stop applying pressure.:(:nailbiting::dunno:

Welcome to the forum. There is a support forum for PT. If there is not enough response here from members with PT, you can try post your condition in the PT forum. Our notable member @Karen is someone with PT. If she can read your post, she may be able to help you with her experience. PT is related to the blood pressure. The finger pressure may affect the blood flow/pressure about your ears and thereby it can affect your PT. Finally, you can also search this forum with pulsatile tinnitus and you should see lots of prior discussions in the past. Good luck. God bless.

Hi, @LC_lights,

I'm sorry you're experiencing pulsatile tinnitus after having sinus issues. I certainly understand how you are feeling right now, as I have pulsatile tinnitus, too. Mine started back in 2010 after taking a blood pressure drug for the first time.

When mine first started, I experienced a lot of the same symptoms you have described, including ear fullness, pressure, a dull pain in the ear, and roaring in the affected ear. I tried going to several specialists and had a number of tests, but a cause was not found for mine. However, time has been a great healer for me -- the feeling of fullness and pressure is gone now, and so are the pain and the roaring. I do still have pulsating, but I don't notice it much during the day. At night, I still sometimes have trouble falling asleep, so I usually wait until I'm really sleepy before I go to bed. Also, I take magnesium every night before bed to help me relax and fall asleep more easily.

I'm glad you're having the blood work done, if only to rule out certain conditions. You could also consider seeing a specialist, such as a neurologist or neurotologist, to see if they can assist . They can order various tests for you, such as an MRI or CT scan.

I wish you success in finding a cause for your PT, but if you have all the tests with no answers, please take heart. Conditions such as this may often improve with time.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Best wishes,
Karen

Hi @LC_lights, has your PT gone down at all? I got my PT after a sinus infection in January too, and now I have a sinus infection again with a minor ear infection which made my PT way worse. I'm 22 years old, normal BMI and pretty healthy overall. Please let me know if you have any updates!
