Cause of Tinnitus
2 days after receiving the 2nd shot of moderna vaccine
Hello, I'm new on this forum. I developed tinnitus 2 days after receiving the second shot of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

It's been 19 days now and I still have the tinnitus.

I went to ENT on Monday last week and told him my history. They were unsure if it's a coincidence or a reaction to the vaccine. He prescribed me Prednisone for 7 days but my tinnitus did not improve at all.

I really don't know what to do now and I don't know if this will go away. I stumbled upon this group... hoping to hear The Sound of Silence again...

@Giruto, I hope it's from anxiety and not the vaccine.

Let's hope it settles.

I had the Pfizer one.

Love,
Glynis

How bad is it? And I have heard some people getting tinnitus from COVID-19 vaccines.

Get your hearing tested too. The Prednisone should help.

The high pitch sound is really bad... day 1 after receiving the vaccine, I had flu like symptoms which is normal, fever, headache and body ache. Then 2nd day, I had buzzing sound on both ears and now have high pitch sound. On the early onset, the tinnitus is 5/10 and 9/10 high pitch.

I took Prednisone for 7 days. No improvement but it got worse.

@Giruto, sorry to hear that but you have come to the right place. It's still early and hopefully it disappears. Would you say you were pretty worked up or anxious about getting the vaccine? Or from the side effects?

I think there is some number you are suppose to call to report any unusual side effects. You probably know that. Please keep us posted.

No I was not anxious at all, I didn't even think of side effects after the second shot.

Yes, I reported my symptoms to CDC but I don't think they have the time or resources to read it but I'm hoping.

I'm hoping that this will go away, it's mentally exhausting.

It's terrible, completely life changing. Mine was bearable when at its baseline but since it has got louder has destroyed me. My wife and children are totally fed up repeating everything. They don't understand at all and if I try and explain they just think I'm a complainer. So you keep your mouth shut, pretend you hear, only ask to repeat when you must. Slowly end up isolated leading to severe depression and dementia.

Just as I had found the perfect match with audio from a tinnitus web site (10 kHz sine) my wife walked into the next room and asked "what is that awful noise?". I told her that's what I hear all the time. "That's terrible" she said. 4-5 years and my daughters haven't even asked me what it sounds like?

I love em but teenage girls are all about themselves and their friends. I don't want them to worry about me but a little compassion and understanding would sure help. All you can do is try and stay positive. Sure ain't easy. FX-322 is getting to be my only hope.

Sorry bud, not what you need to hear right now. I'm just getting very discouraged because I can't sleep with the tinnitus screaming, shitty weather and this COVID-19 thing doesn't help.

Spring is coming, vaccine is rolling out and FX-322 looks promising. Family is healthy. Lots to be grateful
for.

I really think your tinnitus is only temporary and I wish you the best.

Thanks, I wish you all the best... My wife and daughter are very supportive and understanding. They know what I'm going through right now. Keep your hopes...

I'm waiting for the sound silence.

I heard Dr Drew and Dr Oz talking about how the COVID-19 virus affects the brain. TV in garage and I was under my truck so I couldn't follow 100% but sounded interesting. They were really stressing the importance of vitamin D.

I realize you figure you got your tinnitus from the COVID-19 vaccine. I hope it passes. I think I'd rather take my chances with the virus than listen to my tinnitus for the rest of my life. They also brought up that it will be years before we know of any long term effects the virus may.

Honestly, you could also get tinnitus from catching COVID-19 normally. There are definitely people who had that happen to them.

@Giruto, I hope it settles for you soon. I have not heard that was a side effect of the vaccine, however I have read more than once that people who have had the virus have had hearing loss and consequently developed tinnitus.

Best,
Danielle

Hello @Giruto, I'm sorry to hear about your tinnitus. One of my tinnitus noises is high pitched, too, so I know how exhausting it can be, especially in the beginning. It is a good thing that you're not on your own but have people who support you. Try to stay positive!

Love, Leila

Two young men from a computer repair shop I go to got COVID-19 a few weeks ago, fully recovered now, the youngsters usually fight it easy, immune systems are stronger...
A lot of people, the young included, don't fully recover as they end up with long term COVID-19. I listened to a young woman in her 20s on the radio recently, who regularly runs 3 to 5 miles a day. She got COVID-19 and ended up with long term COVID-19. She can only walk 30 yards now and has to stop because she's gasping for breath. I have heard similar stories, people in their 20s, 30s and 40s who have recovered from the virus but their body is not the same.

Try to give your ears rest, don't use headphones/earbuds for a while - Could help, I hope it does.

Hi @Giruto. I am in a very similar situation! I got my first Moderna dose 1/5/21 and second 2/7/21. Did not notice any tinnitus prior to having my second dose. I developed minimal side effects after my first dose, but my second I exhibited flu-like symptoms for 2 days. Wasn't surprised. About 3 weeks after receiving the vaccine I noticed a high pitched ringing in my left ear, that didn't change with anything. It's impossible to sleep at night without some kind of white noise slightly masking it.
I was pretty worried at first and got in with my ent that I see for allergies. He ruled out hearing loss and any issues with my ears. I was told to come back in 2 weeks if it was worse or no change. Saw my dentist about the issue thinking well maybe my tmj Disfunction was causing the issue. Ended up having an mri to rule out neuroma per ent request and it was normal.
I pretty much feel hopeless that if it's the vaccine I won't be able to help it at all.
I hope and pray that if the vaccine has caused this issue or exacerbated the tinnitus that it will go away over time. I try not to focus on if not, but it's hard.
I'm thankful to find this group. Please keep us updated on any change you have with your tinnitus.

Yes I've heard of some young people getting hit hard with it - I researched power of the mind / self healing energy AND viruses / immune systems for 4 years 'because' I was so ill for so many years - not anymore... for half a century, if anyone was going to get colds, sickness, flu, it would be me...

When my wife got so ill last March 'lost taste and smell', I got a cough for a day or so - I put an insert into my diary, 'sarcastic remark', oh dear self healing specialist and virus fighter has a cough... but I got rid of it fast...

The problem is IMO with all I've learned over recent years, and by the way I haven't now gotten colds/flu for 4 years, apart from that one little cough - 'IS' that when people, 'youngsters included', get tested, and I'll make this very clear, I'm 'NOT' suggesting people don't get tested before anyone has a go - I'm just telling you as I see it - once they know they've got 'the thing' inside of them, - fear sets in - immune systems go into meltdown, and in some/many cases cells go into hiding because signals from the mind/brain to the immune system is panic and not fight it... my opinion...

@one-light, it sounds like you are suggesting that your wife had COVID-19 but didn't get that sick because she didn't know she had it? Those that get tested positive would probably do better not knowing?

Testing is still a good idea so that those with COVID-19 know they must isolate to protect others and slow the spread.

Interesting theory though and depending on the individual and how they handle the information may very well hold some truth. "Ignorance is bliss" they say. :)

Yes I've heard from loads who've had the jab and just a few side effects or nothing - but what about the 0.01% that experience difficulties, do they get to speak up and say and be heard - time will tell...
Well, any major side effects from the vaccines are going to be dismissed and not taken into account. Now governments just care about the economy. For them, the fact that some people may die after getting vaccinated or that they develop some lasting and serious side effect is a secondary matter; governments and the economic powers just don't care about people.

That's why it is so important to make a personal and informed choice about whether to get vaccinated or not. Personally, I will not get vaccinated.

I feel there is not enough data and public information available about the vaccines and their side effects.

My wife was ill with it, she avoided the hospital just about... I looked after her at home, I got it a few days later but dealt with it... I think if so much fear hadn't been created - people would have handled it better... for example in a duplicate world I was messaging about on various forums - another identical planet and they do things differently...

First, don't give it a ferocious name creating fear, lowering immune systems... 2nd be advised on national TV if you have a cough, phone your boss and say 'I have a cough boss, I think it might be COVID-19, can I have the day off please' - that's fine take a month...

3rd if you think it's the bad one, DON'T lock yourself away creating fear in your defence system, you don't know what it is so go for that walk daily, KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE at all times, but get some fresh air - stay strong in mind, immune system will respond and be stronger, and so helping to avoid the hospitals and helping there...

I used to get every cold/flu going up to 4 years ago - viruses are not welcome here straight into the colon, bye - and we dealt with something bad a year ago, my wife normally never gets a cold, this hit her hard, fully recovered within a month though...

I gave 500 Stay Strong posters out to shopkeepers in many towns in 2020, stay strong in mind, like wearing body armour in as battle... shopkeepers loved them and displayed them - and now nearly a year later they have a big roadside sign on the main road in big lights saying 'Stay Strong, we've got this' - a little late IMO...

I emailed loads of newspapers radio stations, told them about my Stay Strong effort and zilch back - science has this now, jab everybody up, every year for life, this could happen...

Duplicate world theory, could it be much better than what's happened, certainly no worse...

I've had tinnitus for years, you just get used to it and tune it out, but I have definitely noticed that it is definitely louder since getting my first Moderna shot. Now I'm debating whether to get the second shot!

Have you had a hearing test? You can download "Hearing Test Pro" on the Google Play store to get a good approximation. If your hearing is unaffected I think it's very likely to settle down, reduce to a very low level or even go away. I use this app regularly to check on my hearing and it's a lifesaver. Make sure you use the bundled headphones if applicable for your phone, be in a completely silent room and put the phone on silent/do not disturb.

It will either get better and or your ability to cope will become far better. Good luck.

Same here, the Pfizer shot 1 of 2 gave me much louder tinnitus. It is reported as an adverse event along with hearing loss and loss of auditory acuity but with very small numbers. I'm sure the actual incidence is much much higher. I think I may also forgo shot 2 of 2.

I just finished a 27 hour fast and will fast all week intermittently then try a 3 day fast. You have to work your way up and slowly acclimate to fasting or it's just too difficult.

Mine also seems to be worse - louder - since first shot on March 5. Scheduled for 2nd next Friday. Debating.

Another victim here. I had very minor tinnitus prior to my first Moderna shot on 2/19 and on the next day I noticed it had gotten much worse.

Now I can't sleep without a loud fan and when there's no background noises, it's definitely distracting and very tough to focus on anything but the ringing.

Obviously this is more than a coincidence that people on here are experiencing the same thing after the vaccine, and I too am NOT going to get my second shot. I just hope that this heightened level of tinnitus isn't permanent. Please everyone let us know if you have news of it dissipating at all over time.

Thanks!
Tim

I have used fasting to reduce the volume of spikes due to excessive noise exposure in the past and it worked somewhat this time as well. After a 27-hour fast and 18-hour fast my tinnitus became much much better, non-intrusive and just a whisper.

But it's back again to the high pitch annoying level brought on by the vaccine. I am hoping it will subside when the body's response to the mRNA is completely finished. Perhaps this is about one month after the first dose.

@Giruto @kari I am new here, too, and suffer from post Moderna vaccine tinnitus. It's been a horrible experience and I felt despair. This support group helps. I want to support others, in return.

I experience hyperacusis, panic, and anxiety. Never before have I had these issues. Will try prednisone this week, as I believe my ENT is going to prescribe. He mentioned anti-viral meds, but others on this forum say they don't work. Or make it worse. I can't risk that. I'm scared.

This past Christmas my husband was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. So much stress. I turned to God for help. Prayer and meditation have become part of my life. I was out of work for five weeks and went back two weeks ago.

Happy this forum exists. Praying for you guys and all our fellow sufferers.

Hi Mary and I'm very sorry about your situation. I too am suffering from tinnitus after the Moderna vaccine, and am wondering how long it's been for you. It's been a little over a week for me and no changes at all and am concerned that this damage from the vaccine is permanent. Also if anyone else has had the increase after the vaccine and it went away, this would be very good news to know. Thanks!
