I Invented a Sound That Knocked Out My Tinnitus

David, I regret to report that I have listened to the Tinnitus Mix for over a week now with no improvement. I have severe noise-induced tinnitus.
It can take 3-4 weeks for some people. You have not completed the protocol. Keep going for at least 1-2 weeks more before giving up.

Are you playing it on Koss KTX-PRO1 headphones?

Are you playing it all night, every night without skipping a night?

How long have you had tinnitus? The longer you have had tinnitus, the longer Tinnitus Mix takes to work.

I have had a few people take 6 weeks. The average for success is 3 weeks.

I'm playing on those Koss headphones. It seemed to knock out a metallic shell ringing sound I've had for a while but the dominant tone in right ear (1959 Hz or 3918 Hz) is still there. And morse code tinnitus in left ear persists. Both are loudest in morning whether I listen to the Tinnitus Mix or not. It masks it a little bit though I'll give it that.

I'm wondering if it's just a big placebo affect. I really wish it would work.

Update:

About 4 weeks in after almost 16 years of tinnitus. Until till this week, I have had exceptional results from Tinnitus Mix. Nothing in the past has done squat. It was almost 24/7 obnoxious ringing.

This week I have had more bad days than not. But maybe because I fell asleep with another masking program that sounded similar. So, essentially I have not followed the directions properly. As I write my head tinnitus is gone, although my head feels "off". However, milder spikes. I imagine it as my hippocampus as recovering from assault. There is an emotional component to tinnitus in many cases, there may be a emotional/brain involvement. Thumbs up still. Thanks David.

P.S. Get off David's ass. Some people are helped in other ways, don't assume he is insincere. Buy all those other programs and magic herbs for $99.00 per month. This is free, it should tell you "no gain" other than helping people. Geez, he might enjoy helping people, what a concept.

I'm very grateful for his contribution to everyone. I'm just wondering if the Tinnitus Mix works better for higher frequency tinnitus vs. 2 kHz- 4 kHz tinnitus. Most of the tones in the Tinnitus Mix are ultra high frequency. If I play some neuromodulation such as general fuzz, I can get temporary suppression of my tinnitus but this doesn't happen with the Tinnitus Mix. I will give it more time.

Thanks for update. I would not do any other sound therapy during the 3-4 week period using Tinnitus Mix. The tinnitus will try to reform when you are not playing Tinnitus Mix. Hope this helps you.

Yes, I would continue for several more weeks, as I said the 3 week suggestion is just an average. And you should ONLY use Tinnitus Mix and no other sound therapy during the therapy for it to work.

I wish every one got results like this guy, but everyone is different.

Hello David,

I am really interested in hearing more about the studies being done with the tinnitus researcher.

It's great that you are trying to help people and offer your Tinnitus Mix for free. I feel one of the issues with people (myself included) is that tinnitus makes you very fearful of anything which could possibly make it worse.

I tried listening to your Tinnitus Mix but only managed a few minutes as it is totally awful :) My own tinnitus was possibly made worse by a trip to the cinema. For me it was a life changing event, for my friends who also attended they went to see a movie and that was it (they didn't get tinnitus). So listening to any sound, especially something which sounds awful causes some fear.

I really hope that your Tinnitus Mix works and if you could get proof in a scientific study then you deserve to become rich, and if you prove it works and continue to give it away for free, you deserve a sainthood.

Thanks, I won't do any other sound therapies.

I would like to get an iPod Mini or equivalent. Which ones do you think will give me the 25 kHz that is needed? I do have a CD player I can resurrect.

Thank you for your time.

CD players are cheaply built and fail often. The player just has to go to 20 kHz (industry standard).

You want to use a simple player withOUT noise suppression as Tinnitus Mix is noise and with noise suppression it may not work.

The best player I have found is this clip jam wav player. It keeps the sound file in high quality. You will want to turn on "FULL TREBLE" in equalizer menu for maximum ultra sonics.

I'm giving Tinnitus Mix another shot out of desperation.

I have an iPod Mini with an EQ setting called treble boost. Should I turn that on?
Yes, you should turn up treble on any device that you play Tinnitus Mix on. Make SURE you use the Koss KTX-PRO1 headphones or earbuds from 1MORE Triple Drivers or it may not work.

Yes I totally understand the fear of a sound making tinnitus worse. That is the biggest obstacle when trying to help people with my sound therapy. And then people are told never to put headphones on when you have tinnitus. That's a double whammy . So it is extremely hard to get people to even try my therapy.

Here is a tip to help you, put the Koss KTX-PRO1 headphones around your neck during the day and play on very low volume so you barely hear it for an hour to get used to the sounds.

Here are a couple of the best testimonies of band members who forced themselves to play Tinnitus Mix and they are very happy they did.

Is there a difference between the black and blue SanDisk Clip Jam? The black has FM radio I suspect.

My Sony recorder at volume 21-24 turns down the volume automatically to 16 as a warning of loud volume.

I want the black SanDisk Clip Jam one, but afraid to buy the wrong one. I hate bright colors.

Hi @R. David Case.

Will Tinnitus Mix work if I play it on my phone on a volume below my tinnitus but without the Koss headphones? I just can't sleep with the headphones and my tinnitus is unilateral, so I don't want to overuse my good ear.

Thanks!

I have a question - my tinnitus is noise induced but I really only have it bad in one ear - my right. My hearing in that ear is quite bad and I now wear a hearing aid.

Should I wear the hearing aid while listening to Tinnitus Mix?

The color makes no difference on the SanDisk Clip Jam player.

I have had many Sony UX-560 players and have not seen that happen, it must be a setting in the menu.

They stopped making the Sony UX-560 and it used to cost $90. THAT'S why I am now recommending the SanDisk Clip Jam player, it is only $29 and you can select "FULL TREBLE" in equalizer menu to increase ultrasonics for better results.

I have had some people do that and it worked for them, but it works better with the Koss KTX-PRO1 headphones. The tinnitus may try to switch ears as it is fleeting and it is a good sign when that happens so don't worry, it will go away even if that happens.

Dave,

If you have time, I was wondering if you could give your opinion on these 2 neuromodulation therapies. Being an engineer and having created Tinnitus Mix, I'd be interested in your opinion on their strengths, weaknesses, and how they compare to Tinnitus Mix.

I don't ask with any sort of contempt, but rather with sincere curiosity. Thanks.

I dug out all the settings on the Sony recorder which you suggested by email to buy.

It turns down volume by half, with a message saying high volume might damage your hearing, maybe because in EU we have different regulations, and the devices are built like that.

There is no setting to change that.

In the middle of the night it turns down to 16, and you have to amp it up again, STRANGE. Because with louder volume I want to affect my whole brain, I want to affect dreaming state, which disturbs me, because I get too many dreams.

This idea of downloads not being reliable is a little outlandish. It doesn't make sense.

There are no "bugs" in downloads and if there were errors while downloading the file you would know because each packet of data is checked as the file is written to your hard drive.

They are sending and receiving telemetric data to F1 cars and spaceships with no "errors", I'm pretty sure the modern internet is capable of sending a sound file.

It's these claims that makes me skeptical about the whole thing. I want to believe in this as much as the next guy but you really have to tighten up some of these ridiculous claims.
Modern error correction along with sampling rates for digital systems make the comparison to analog as being superior in any way quite ridiculous.

Yes. I think you might be right on EU regulations. I have had many Sony players and that never happened.

WOW I could not take that for long. Pure tones are not good for tinnitus. I have found that the structure of tinnitus has a feedback loop in it. So pure analog sounds (smooth waves) can make it through the feedback loop and reinforce the tinnitus. Tinnitus Mix has chaotic pulses and chopped waves that break down the feedback loop.

I remember before I invented Tinnitus Mix I used a sound generator just like the one on your post that made random smooth tones and it made my tinnitus worse.

That's interesting, because I get the opposite reaction to those tracks. I get a very calming and lessening effect on my tinnitus from them. And I could listen to them for hours and still feel a good and lasting effect.

You say that pure tones are not good for tinnitus. So would you then object to the entire structure of ACRN, and with the positive findings from its research study?

Agreed. I used ACRN yesterday during a spike (which was like a very long fleeting tinnitus episode) and after 15 minutes it was gone and overall I had some residual inhibition.

There are many types of tinnitus. I was just saying what I have found out about my tinnitus and possibly about the types of tinnitus that Tinnitus Mix works on.

I think you have a very different kind of tinnitus than me. Have you tried Tinnitus Mix?

I have no doubt some people can get relief from smooth tones, Notch Therapy, Neurofeedback, white noise, pink noise, herbal remedies etc, etc.

Yeah, I think it's pretty impressive how quickly ACRN, as well as other neuromodulation tracks work at least in the short term. In my opinion, they should be one of the first lines of defense for a person when they first become afflicted.

I think they act as great 'pacifiers' in the short term, until the long term effects of them can be achieved.

Yeah, I've been using Tinnitus Mix for roughly 9+ weeks. Not to say that I haven't had any good results from it, but they just haven't been as dramatic and quick as many of your users report. It's all been a very slow and steady type of progression for me.

I started using ACRN about a week ago, and I'm finding that I'm getting steady results from that as well. I'm sort of juggling between 3 or 4 different neuromodulation tracks right now. Right now I usually listen to Tinnitus Mix or another YouTube track while sleeping, and ACRN during the day. I like to mix it up a little, rather than listening to the same one all the time.

Thankfully, my tinnitus isn't severe and has stabilized in the 3/10 or less range. I can at least say that it has definitely improved since onset. I don't get crazy spikes, nor do I feel that things are worsening. And I think that all the supplements, exercise, and other things that I'm doing regularly, are all working together to keep me going in the right direction.

That's great. Whatever works is the most important thing. I find it amazing how different everyone is, like you say, it's slow progress for you and others get results fast with Tinnitus Mix. One day I will find out why and improve or tune Tinnitus Mix for individual situations. Then maybe everyone will get fast relief like these to guys:

We have finally had the study on Tinnitus Mix published in a major engineering journal!
