I Just Wanted to Say Thank You to the Medical Community for Working on Tinnitus

I agree with this, but we've got multiple drugs and devices in the research pipeline for tinnitus, as well as a wider spectrum of drugs and therapies aimed at reversing hearing loss. That doesn't mean any of these approaches will go anywhere, per se, but it does mean that rich capitalists see this as a potential vector for becoming richer.

You're totally right, but unfortunately there are many conditions that reap greater rewards for those in the medical field. Diseases that affect a larger amount of the population and that are, when it comes down to it easier to understand, are a safer investment. During my course, we've covered most diseases and all tinnitus was given was 'yeah we don't understand it, there's no treatment, and it sucks to have it. Now back to cancer, diabetes, COPD etc...'. I think if people within the field gave tinnitus research a second thought they'd see there's actually a lot of money to be made in it, but unfortunately most of them think there's bigger fish to fry.

Ok how do I start again who do I write to bio companies or the senator of my state because clearly this isn't a medical crisis. And it's not why they can not come together to realize that tinnitius is more than a booboo. They already make money from the depression and anxiety and many side effects it cause. Also, threefirefour is not wrong. And ill tell you why from the 7 different docs I went to who said nothing and can not help me. For you to say the medical research make no money ask how many here gave up they jobs or can't get jobs do to tinnitius, I'm sure medical researcher with University have boatload of money. And for years they only thought tinnitius was in the ear, NOT. Now I would think bio companies would be interested to develop a treatment it's open for business and don't tell me bio companies have no money. They hire researcher. Also on clinictrials.gov site there is only one drug that just started and to end 5 yrs down the road. And since that ear replacement failed. Just because the medical prof don't know where to turn or it's to difficult for them to go forward is not a reason for medical professionals to say no cure it's only a booboo. It's just polictical business run a around not a medical crisis. Oh yes it is.

There's many excellent written and truthful postings on this thread. We had recently discussed funding, mainly for research that would lead for a FDA approved drug in another thread. In that thread we also discussed why large drug companies won't get involved until compounds are discovered.

I mentioned that SciFluor was once researching for neuro compounds as that's what they do. They have a strong connection with Harvard. Universities have billions on billions, but brain research is way behind cancer discovery treatment and many other diseases and conditions for all the reasons that we discuss here.

I did get a second response from my awareness mailings. This one wasn't from a US Senator or Congressperson. It was from someone in the Department of Health Education and Welfare. Someone that I once know well.

He echoed the same thoughts from the office holders that I wrote. As in a link that I provided a short time back, the US government has not placed much money in T research in recent years. One grant was for just 138,000 dollars and that related to hearing, but tinnitus was listed as a secondary keyword.

The Department of Health believes that most can habituate and that's true. Medical sites states that those with very severe T, often caused by progressive other conditions and disease won't be able to live a normal life. That's 5% to 10%, and maybe more of those posting here.

Somatic conditions often within the neck can include joint hypertrophy, arthritis and spondylosis which are progressive concerns. These conditions cause high pitch ringing. 10X the acceptance of lower subjective T. Other diseases can also cause high pitch ringing. Somatic conditions can also include electrical component distress and that is one nightmare, but sleeping is very difficult.

My T is going to extreme C levels tonight, so whatever.

That's a good point; from an outside perspective, tinnitus is a 'livable' condition. The stats say it only affects 10% of the population and only a minority of that percentage cannot habituate. What people don't understand is that just because you can 'live' with a condition, it doesn't mean that it can't still immensely affect your mental health, relationships, livelihood etc. and it doesn't mean that it should be forgotten about.

Another issue that arises in research regarding T, is that it is a symptom, rather than a specific disease itself- meaning that it can have many causes. Add to this that the causes themselves are also poorly understood and you have yourself a very complex condition. However, with the society we currently live in, incidence of T is only going to worsen, and eventually people are going to wake up to how serious this condition is. It's just unfortunate that we on this forum have to deal with it before this attitude change occurs.
