I Know of 2 People in My Family Whose Tinnitus Has Gone Away

But at the same time we live in the age of social media and people talk about everything. If you really get something life changing as T and get healed from it, we really would hear about it first hand more often.
If one were to have a full-on debilitating tinnitus that would turn Off all of a sudden, then of course one would want to share this with everyone they meet. But it is my understanding that it doesn't work this way. For those who get to hear silence again, tinnitus gradually fades. So by the time they get to hear silence, their T was had been barely noticeable for 6-12 months. And by that time, when the nightmare is finally over, they might not be as vocal about it.

I get where you're coming from and I'm not saying you're wrong either, but I still think it's weird that we have almost 25 000 members, each day someone new gets tinnitus and there are bunch of other social media sites and still we rarely hear people healing from T after 3 months or so. Sure, lot of people might leave once their tinnitus scare only lasts for a week, but I still think we all can agree that getting tinnitus that lasts longer than that is an event that you won't forget about and most people would make noise if it faded away.

I don't want to be pessimistic, but I'm still a strong believer that T actually going away is really rare and not as usual as people make it to be. Everytime you ask people or doctors, it's always that they have heard stories or read studies that it has gone away, but never really met anyone who's T actually went away. I'm just saying this because I met yet another doctor recently and she told me the same thing that I have hope of it going away, but then when I asked her if she actually knew someone whos did, she reversed and took back the whole deal and told me that she meant that it will fade enough not to bother me. So yeah, they just like to give you false hope so you won't go insane and your stress won't make it worse.

Sure I believe there are some people whos T went away and they just won't post about it. But at the same time we live in the age of social media and people talk about everything. If you really get something life changing as T and get healed from it, we really would hear about it first hand more often. That's just my two cents.

I agree with you 100% it being realistic not pessimistic!

I am wondering something....
Why does tinnitus over time get easier, and fade but it does not cure itself? It is such a complex symptom ;-(

Can apple cider vinegar in pill form be as effective for tinnitus as the liquid with the mother? The process of making it in pill form destroys the mother from what I read.

@Bill Bauer

Earlier in this thread you mention that if the t is a hiss or ring tells how bad the ear injury was. I think I know the answer but which is worse?

To anyone, does the volume get a little louder when the ring starts to turn to a hiss? I feel like it wants to go from ring to hiss but I also feel like it's gotten a little louder.

High-pitch tone is worse. Some T feels like a hiss without earmuffs/earplugs, and a high-pitch tone with them. This means that a hiss might be how one perceives a quiet tone (although this might not be your case).

I wouldn't worry about the volume getting louder. A tone changing to a hiss is a huge development. The volume will (hopefully) diminish later.

@Bill Bauer

Thanks for the info. Mornings are my best time with crickets under a 'gentler' tone. As the day progresses the crickets leave and the tone gets harsher. In the mornings with ear muffs it sounds gentler and pleasant but by the evening with ear muffs on it's pretty angry. Hopefully with time the gentler side will gain momentum.

@JuneStar

That sounds like the right kind of hiss. I hope things continue to improve for you.

I hope a change to a hiss and lower volume happens for me. All I can do is give it time and protect my ears.

90% of the time it's the hiss. once in awhile it will spike..not as often anymore. prayers for you!! ive heard that time is the only real medicine.

Just ran across the following testimonial from THIS SITE

"I folded a handkerchief into a 1 and a half inches width and poured a few drops of Citronella Essential Oil on it. I laid down on my bed and placed the handkerchief over my nose in contact with the oil. I breathed in and out through the handkerchief for half an hour. I felt the sting of the Citronella fumes in my sinuses, so I controlled my inhaling to prevent too much pain. But other than that there was no harm experienced by me by inhaling this oil.

Anyway, after half hour of such inhalation, I experienced a discharge of watery mucus from my nostrils like having a cold. I sensed something good about it. I cleared my nose. After that my tinnitus of 2 years was gone for good! Imagine after despairing for so long and searching here and there on the Internet for a cure, I bumped into one myself. And this happened like 10 months ago and the tinnitus has never returned. I am completely cured.

Citronella essential oil? I searched it up and it says it's to deter mosquitos and insects. It seems dangerous no? Plus he says it stings?? I would try it but the stinging part and it's to deter insects, sounds weird. What do you think?

I'm not familiar with it, but it doesn't really scare me (I experiment with a lot of things). Even the stinging part only makes me think it has powerful penetrating qualities, which I can easily see how useful that could be. The trick--which this individual seems to have accomplished--is to breathe in just enough to be effective, but not enough for it to be painful or even harmful. I'm probably going to give it a try--cautiously! ;)

I would also be interested in experimenting, how do you plan on doing it? Putting the oil in a bowl and smelling it? For how long or what else?

My T changes from pure hiss to a high pitched tone with a hiss several times within a day. However the net volume has noticeably reduced within the past several months. Would you say this is still a good sign despite the presence of high pitched tones? thank u for all the positive info btw!!

The fact that the volume has been fading is the important thing. It is frustrating when its pitch switches back and forth, but it is much better compared to when it stays relentlessly at the same volume and pitch.

You had experienced fading within the first three months - that's very encouraging. T tends to fade slower, the quieter it gets, but you ought to experience even more fading during the next 9 months, and it will likely continue fading for another 6-12 months after that. Just make sure to do what you can to avoid hurting your ears again over the next two years.

@Bill Bauer and @New Guy
I've had tinnitus for exactly 6 weeks now - from noise induced trauma (35 minutes at a bar without earplugs, always worn earplugs before this day when going out).

First few weeks I had severe H and earpain/fulness - this has disappeared completely.

It started as just ringing in my right ear, but after 3.5 weeks its turned into hissing in both my ears - the ring is still present in my right ear when I close my ears with my finger, but seems to be less loud.

Would you say it is a good sign I now have the hissing in both my ears?
