I have mild T (please don't judge!) so I don't know if this will help at all, but I'm so happy right now. My T has been barely noticeable for the past two weeks, and I've even woken up in (almost) silence! My trick was that I stopped caring about it - literally. I stopped looking for it because I knew it was pointless. Whenever I think of T I just do something else and it usually works well. When I have to sleep at night I just think: "This is just in my head and I'll be fine" and I usually manage to relax. My T normally gets quit again so I can fall asleep. I also try to convince myself that the sound comes from an actual device in the room... Then after a few weeks things changed drastically! I barely notice it during the day at all now, and I can listen to music at moderate volume for hours and it doesn't get worse... Which is weird though. I tried hypnosis videos, and they are really helpful also. They make me relax in a completely different way. But I still hope to wake up and discover that my T has faded completely. I think that worrying about it constantly is a subconscious 'flight-for-fight response' and changing that made a huge difference for me. I really hope my story helps, but I doubt it since my T always has been mild. I will update if I notice any more changes.

Honey, I don't want to judge you. It's just that with mild tinnitus your "trick" of stopping caring about it is a million times easier than with "megaphone" tinnitus.

You aren't lucky. You are part of the majority who have it mild. There's a small group who will never get better and for whom no trick will help because of the loudness of their tinnitus.

You are a great example of how mild tinnitus people usually do after a little while. Tinnitus won't be an issue for them, and that's why there is no cure for this, and that's why there won't be cure for this in a looooong while.

Good for you!!! Hope its gone completely soon.

I don't think it will fade in the near future because now it's louder! I've just received some sleeping meds and I wonder if that could be a side effect? I was celebrating Christmas with my family today (yes in my country we celebrate Christmas a day earlier) and I was with them the whole day. I think that could have caused a spike because everyone was speaking loudly especially my annoying small cousins who scream and run around a lot but I don't now.

That can cause a spike for sure. A few months ago I was in a small cafe and a toddler screamed right behind me. A few moments later she did it again. I got my azz out of there as fast as possible, but the damage was done. My spike lasted over 10 days, meaning it was at a 9 out of 10 instead of its usual 6 to 8 out of 10.

Don't panic. Since your tinnitus is mild, it should resolve and get back to baseline pretty quick.

I had I bunch of those spikes before it finally faded all the way down.
wear earplugs when you know things are going to be loud. That helped me allot.

My T has been very quite lately. I think there's a good chance it will fade completely within a month, but if it doesn't then I can live with it. :)

what does "very quite" tinnitus mean? how loud is it in silence from 1-10? and how did you get your tinnitus in the first place?

That's great Gaga Girl.

I read your post from December about spikes after loud environments and I still experience that too.

I hope to be in your stage soon. -- I'm really getting strict with my diet and exercise.

Did you do anything different since Christmas to help with the fading T?

Thanks, John

From 1-10 I would say 2. I think I got my T due to loud music or stress -- or maybe both.

Not much really. I have tried to go to bed earlier so I could get more sleep which seems to help. I've also tried meditation and hypnosis videos. It has also helped a lot and it is really effective for reducing stress. And, I've also avoided listening to music at least two hours before bed time.

Wow! I will have to try the meditation again. I tried early on without much success.

Is there anything specific I should Google to find them? Thanks Gaga Girl..

FWIW, @TheGagagirl1234 and @John Meyers --

I first noticed my tinnitus back in October 2014 in the midst of a nasty sinus infection (I woke up with it one morning, basically.) It hasn't gone away and I think if I were to "loudness" match it with what it was back then, it would probably be about the same as it is now, but considering that I am not dealing with some of the symptoms some here have that are more severe (i.e. I don't have "head ringing" or anything more than basically a single tone now) it took me about 6 months to truly feel "back to myself." But I think this is a fairly common story for most people, and now although I don't think mine will ever "fade away" completely I don't think about it much. I am going back to my ENT next week because since that sinus infection I have noticed my left ear (the tinnitus ear) also feeling symptoms that feel like Eustachian tube dysfunction, and given my history of ear infections and ear drum scarring, it's possible that it is something that could be dealt with (albeit without any true impact on the tinnitus.) My hearing tests show noise-induced hearing loss at a level of about 25dB in both ears, a touch lower in my left ear, at the 4000 hz level where it is common to see noise induced hearing loss.

So long story short--it's entirely possible that with both of you, the passage of time will help you feel better regardless of whether it fades completely, and it seems as though you are already both well on your way there.

Easier, yes, but just because something is harder doesn't mean it's impossible.

I'm not saying my tinnitus is as bad as yours, @Atlantis, I don't know and I don't really care. Whatever the volume and pitch of your tinnitus, I'm sorry you have it, and I'm sorry it's so distressing. I don't want to rehash the whole volume matters debate again.

I just wanted to say that I can hear my tinnitus just about everywhere, with the exception of being in the shower (and even then in some instances), and that three years ago I would not have believed I'd ever be able to be unaware of it for hours on end. A year ago I might have said, "that happens sometimes, and I don't understand why, or how that is possible". Right here in this moment now, my comment is that I have the beginning of an understanding of how this works for me.

What I am saying is, try to have hope. I have certainly talked to other people over the years who struggled with this for what seemed like an impossibly long time, and then crossed a bridge at some point.
