I thought it would be nice to have a place to go to when your spirits need a lift.
Where every one could post something that helps them.

So, what do you do to lift your spirits when you are down?

I've come up with three things that really help me when I get down in the dumps or lose hope.

1: Create a T & H book

Spoiler: It does not stand for tinnitus and hyperacusis
It stands for "Treasury of Hope."
Print off success stories and inspirational posts and put them in a binder.
(Good to have close by when you can't sleep)

2: Slideshow of beautiful places

Collect images of beautiful places: Forests, streams, rivers, lakes, night skies, cabins in the woods, trails, seasonal nature, interior of cabins and homes... any place you deem to be an escape to a happy place.
View when you need a few minutes of escape from current reality.

3. Attitude of Gratitude

Start a gratitude journal. Find something (anything) even just one little thing each day that was positive or that you were grateful for. (I know, some days it's really hard).

Hi @LindaS,

Thanks for theses ideas. I've been trying to find ways of coping recently and failed miserably.

My Councillor is teaching me mindfulness and CBT... which I'm hoping will aid my coping.

My Fiance is making me keep a weekly journal to mark any progress... things have changed but to be honest I'm still a wreck. Constant face pain and burning 24/7 is draining.

Hoping you are doing well.

Shaun.

All of these are great ideas, Linda.

How about a tinnitus journal? Basically, every night before you go to bed, write down every point that day that you didn't notice your tinnitus, or it didn't bother you. (Literally just thought of this right now.)

I also find that reading (with sound enrichment if needed) or listening to audiobooks/podcasts help a ton when it comes to making me relax.

(Also, I'm very sorry to have read about your recent setback. I hope you feel better soon.) :huganimation:

Thank you Linda for the ideas!

Digging the garden is my release.

If you don't have a garden, even just tending some small pot plants can be a nice pastime.

I enjoy getting into the zone while running or practicing drums (tapping drum sticks on my lap or a quiet pad). Endurance workouts like these help me appreciate my physical capabilities, and it takes my mind off everything to focus on breathing, mechanics, etc.
