Cause of Tinnitus
Truck air horn
I am not affiliated with the artists or products I'm about to plug, but hey. If you are the artist or company reading this you can make an anonymous donation to this site please.

So I recently got tinnitus from that STUPID truck air horn. And I got prednisone (steroid) and this does seem to help a bit. But last night I was in the big city and tripped on the sidewalk. I scraped myself up pretty bad. Just after this as I was putting myself back together an ambulance came down the street with its siren full blast. When I say full blast I mean probably there will be some new members on this site soon.

It was ungodly loud. As in, loud enough to break glass. I actually had to cover my ears that already had 25dB plugs in them. I screamed at the ambulance as it slowly went by. Of course, hardly any other cars on the road. They must turn their sirens on to see how many people they can freak out.

Anyway, Peter Buck has a song where he sings 'I wake up with a head full of rain, but I don't mind'. And that is how I am feeling today. I am using Photive TWS Micro II Bluetooth headphones and listening to 'heavy rain' on the White Noise app. Needless to say my tinnitus is loud today, interfering with my concentration at work. But the rain is drowning it out, at least for now.

@Honky,
Make sure you keep the sound down so you can here your tinnitus still because your brain works hard to pick up the masking sound and not focus on the Tinnitus to help your brains natural filter to push your tinnitus sound to the back of your mind.
Playing sound to loud won't help your brain adjust to your tinnitus sound.

Oh yes @glynis, believe me I'm a low-volume-masker for sure.

I've noticed in order to mask while driving I turn up the rain to its loudest practically (without headphones) just the phone sitting on dashboard. That really helps cover up the T. The road is surprisingly loud but not enough to mask in my case.

I put my chances at 50/50 to recover. I also have had low grade T since about 2004 but it has never bothered me much. The truck air horn spike is different and wickedly more present. The tone is more celestial.

A weird friend has moved into my head. So I dump the rain on this visitor!

@glynis I think you are correct, ear buds/phones are no good for masking! Even just wearing them for less than 15 minutes as I did today. My T is louder this evening as a result. So its initial comfort translates to higher T volume later. So now the ear buds will have to be vaporized.
