Hey everyone,

I work in a school part time and today was another really loud day at work. The whole day was very loud so I wore 3M foam earplugs the whole day.

One of the kids intentionally screamed in my ear because they knew I was trying to protect my hearing. They screamed at the top of their lungs directly into my ear. I was wearing the earplugs at this time but it was still extremely loud. I'm very worried that it caused permanent damage. I was just getting over a spike.

Yeah definitely report that psychopath. Seeing that he did so trying to harm you it could be considered assault.

I've never taken NAC or Magnesium before, how much should I take? Yeah I already reported it to my supervisor.

Take chelated magnesium - high absorption. You might wanna take 400mg of that for like a week and then NAC, since this has the potential of being an acoustic trauma, you can take 2000-3000mg safely. Best to look on here and do a little bit of research though just to make sure.

Ok Thank you, Do you think I should get Prednisone? I had the earplugs in so I'm hoping that protected a little

I don't know if you should take prednisone, but do your ears feel full, any muffled hearing? Things like that. HE DID intentionally scream at you at the top of his lungs, so you might need some, though I am unsure. BUT - this is the second time where you had a noise exposure. Maybe it would be helpful to get prednisone for possible future exposures? Like if you don't take it this time, you have a security blanket if this happens again.

No muffled Hearing, They maybe feel a little full. I'm definitely noticing my tinnitus more now though

Since you were wearing earplugs, it is unlikely that there was permanent damage. Also, the way you know the sound was loud is not because it was loud, but if you get a T spike (that lasts) or a full ear sensation.

Maybe call your GP on speaker phone at a minimum volume to determine if it's best suited, and tell them how you might need some handy, because kids keep picking at you and your condition. But right now, take some nac and magnesium and try to get some prednisone.

Ok that's good to know, I'm not noticing anything too extreme now. My tinnitus seems a little louder and my ears maybe feel a little full but it's hard to tell if it's my anxiety over it that's causing me to feel like that.

So no NAC for the first week and just Magnesium? Or take the Magnesium with the NAC?

Do you think I should go to the emergency room?
You could get some Prednisone there. But keep in mind that Prednisone can sometimes have bad side effects:
Because of taking prednisone for my tinnitus, I then got more serious problems, I was examined for 2 months because I felt terrible. It turned out that I had developed adrenal insufficiency from taking prednisone. And 3 months later, it persists. What's the reason for this, nobody knows.

Hell no! Are you nuts?

On the Magnesium, if you have never taken it before go easy. It causes diarrhea for some. It never bothered me, but I take 250 mg.

And as far as the kid, forget anything happening, that is if you are in the US. A kid can beat up a bus driver and nothing happens.

Calm down!

Are you saying that something like that can't be dangerous? Haven't you seen posts where people got permanent loud T after being slapped or kissed on the ear?

No, I'm saying/asking what is an ER doc going to do about a Tinnitus spike. People are too quick to run to an ER for something ER docs don't deal with.

An ER doctor can prescribe Prednisone. Of course if one doesn't want to take the risk of taking Prednisone, there is no reason to go to the ER...
