Hi everyone. Has anybody heard of Lipoflavonoid to lessen tinnitus. A friend of a friend said it helped theirs?

There have been no peer-reviewed, placebo-controlled, double-blinded studies attesting to Lipoflavonoid's efficacy in treating tinnitus.

Lipoflavonoid is proprietary. They don't tell how much of each ingredient there is in the product.

It is expensive considering the stuff it has: Lipoflavonoid is sold as a dietary supplement. It is composed of eriodictyol glycoside (a bioflavonoid found naturally in the peel of lemons) and the following vitamins: vitamin B6 and B12 (B complex), vitamin C, niacin, riboflavin, thiamine, choline, inositol, and pantothenic acid.[citation needed].

I have read many trying it to no avail.

"Studies Show that Lipo-Flavonoid Works", http://www.lipoflavonoid.com/Pages/LipoStudies
Yeah. Try and search for Lipoflavonoid or Lipo-flavonoid on PubMed. Zero results. Convincing studies they must be.

Besides, you can buy all the ingredients much cheaper at any health store, and likely at bigger doses too.

I'd avoid Lipoflavonoid.

Funny you should mention Lipoflavinoid. When I went to the docs Friday she mentioned that. I about dropped my jaw. I told her I take 12 grams of inositol along with just about every supplement and vitamin/mineral there is. Ain't buying it! lol

I am taking the max amount of ginkgo and zinc. I am even using zinc added mouthwash and toothpaste. I take garlic too! I get ll this from an internet supplement provider at lower costs.

My tinnitus has faded... could be the supplements and then maybe they just keep me healthier... who knows!

Anyone tried Lipoflavinoids????

I recently talked with a fellow Tinitus suffer who claims to have gained some relief from using lipoflavinoids available at food supplement stores or drug store over the counter . I am using natural supplements to help make my pulsatile T more livable.

Hi, Terry,

I haven't tried lipoflavinoids, although some people do think they are helpful.

I was just wondering how you're doing. Feeling any better, or about the same?

Hey @terry123,

I merged your new thread about Lipoflavonoid with an existing one about it.

Please read the above replies.

Basically there's nothing special about Lipoflavonoid, it's only branded as "tinnitus helper" - just like the Arches Formula.

Marketing Dept. of the respective companies to be thanked for the success and visibility of these two products. I've never heard of any real trials validating these two "tinnitus formulas", and until such day comes, I can't help but advise to buy the ingredients separately instead of paying extra just for the brand.

I'm taking part in a lipoflavanoids research study through the University of Iowa. I can't say I've noticed any difference so far. The next 5 month round I'm supposed to be taking their "new formula" and then I'll take those. I'm keeping an open mind about the whole thing though, because you never know!

Oh so it's open-label trial since you know you're getting the real stuff, @Hudson?

I would have preferred double-blinded, as I'm quite stubborn in my thinking that taking the same active ingredients separately is just as effective.

A shame this University of Iowa trial won't confirm that hypothesis then. :(

...this trial basically tries to find out if the new Lipoflavonoid formula is more effective than the previous old one?

Yes, that is the basis of the trial. There are no placebos to my knowledge (the bottles seem the same as what I can buy at the store, except they have my name on them). They measured my hearing and tinnitus pretty thoroughly when I started the trial, and after 5 months of taking the OTC stuff they will measure it again. Then, I am supposed to take the new formula for a further 5 months, at which point they will take a final measurement of my tinnitus and hearing. I think the idea is to compare if the newer formula is any better than the old. There are several ways to set up clinical trials, I can't remember the name of this strategy. It's pretty legit though, the company must have paid a lot to do it.

I am really surprised that they are wasting money funding a trial like this. Lipoflavinoids have been around since 1960. If they really worked then none of us would have tinnitus today. Yet, millions do and millions more since 1960. They even did a study in 1965 to show Lipoflavinoids don't work. Would be nice if they would use this money to fund more meaningful research instead of this and those sound therapy devices....sheesh...just my opinion though and it doesn't matter that much in the world of research science. :)

The primary Lipoflavinoid ingredients are just vitamins, not sure how you can improve on that unless you add in more vitamins. They might as well make a super pill with every vitamin and mineral, throw in some magnesium, ginkgo, green tea, picamilon, DHEA, L-theanine, St Johns Wart, Vinpocetine and every other supplement that supposedly cures T. Then add in a copy of Thomas Coleman's Tinnitus Miracle to read while you down them all. :)

I gasped for air laughing so hard at this, erik. Oh boy.

At the same time that's scarily brilliant a business idea for some of these "treatment" artists!

ive taken lipoflavonoids, 3-4 pills a day for about 10 weeks and it did crap for me. One bottle was like 35 bucks too which is rediculous. I read the ingredients thoroughly and there is nothing in there that cannot be had for alot cheaper. On a side note my ENT also said it was completely useless for any form of tinnitus not directly associated with Menieres disease, for which there is slight statistical data to show it may help to treat it. Bottom line is lipo-flavonoid is very snake-oily in my opinion :-P.

HAHA, tremendous!

I had taken them for a year, stopped for a month and there was no difference at all. My ENT said "well they won't hurt you" so I went back on them, when I run out this time, I am done with them. 100 @ $30.

If you read information on Lipo-Flavinoid, it's suggested that it only helps patients with tinnitus associated with Meniere's disease. I myself have it and found it helpful, it just gets pricey if you want to stay on it forever! My tinnitus has been very annoying as of late, so I think I'm going to go back on it for a while. I tried an ear drop not long ago that was supposed to help too. It gave me complete quiet for a short while, it was awesome! The second time I tried the drops, it didn't work. :(

I have tinnitus due to barometric pressure enduced ear trauma, probably leading to inner ear hair cell damage. Took it for three months and it did nothing. There are better supplements to spend your money on. But as Diane M's post shows, it may help some people in some circumstances.

I talked to a pharmacist today & she mentioned using Lipo-Flavonoids. Of course I have heard of them mentioned along with the use of aspirin numerous times. I have a big bottle of 500 caplets that I never used. I don't think they help either. I'm looking at changing blood pressure meds (long shot) to lower my noise. Found a article today of someone using Cozaar (BP med I'm taking) that got bad ringing in the ears. He had no ringing taking Lisinopril 20mg/Hctz 25mg, so that is what I may try.

I wish I was in Florida like you @LadyDi, as it is -10 degrees here in MN. right now. My parents lived in Naples in the winter, until recent health problems. Been there quite a few times. Floridians probably don't like the snowbirds coming down, too crowded:(. Just checked, high of -17 degrees Monday...can't remember the last time it was that cold for a high.

So did you go to the U of Iowa Tinnitus Clinic? @Hudson. I know it's in Iowa City, but never been there....am about 4 hours away in southern MN. I talked to Dr. Tyler briefly once, months ago.

From what I remember, your from California right? or Des Moines?

@Hudson - Sorry about my confusion on where you were from.... I have been thru Des Moines many times. I planned on going to Iowa City and seeing what they had to offer to help my tinnitus, but have not yet. I know Steak & Shakes are nearby, so it wouldn't be a total waste of time.:D Just kidding on the latter.

Long thread on lipoflavanoids if you just put the term in the TT search field. Sorry cant figure out how to copy the link on an iPad.

Also, I tried them for three months. Did nothing. I have had better luck with NAC and magnesium.

Might as well through my 2 cents on the pile! I took Lipoflavinoids for months early on (with a real open mind), spent beaucoup bucks and they didn't help one bit!! Like Markku said though, great marketers!! Don't waste your dough and don't get your hopes up with Lipoflavinoids!! (n)

I don't believe there is a cure for tinnitus. I know this because my ENT gave me lipo flavidnoids today. That tells me there is noting I can do but eliminate salt, coffee, tea, alcohol, meds, chocolate. Never worry or stress and definitely don't get a cold. Oh and stay away from airplanes and the mountains.

I started taking Lipo-Flavonoid Plus two days ago and woke up this morning with a rash all over my torso. I was extremely nauseous yesterday but I contributed that to the rough seas (work on a casino cruise in Atlantic) The enclosed insert had no side effects listed. Stopped taking it.
