Hey everyone,

I work in an after school program where the kids are very loud and there is a lot of yelling. I was given a couple weeks off by my manager and today was my day back. I was debating between wearing musician's earplugs or soft moldable silicone earplugs. I wore the set silicone ones because the NRR was higher.

I talked a good amount with them in but didn't raise my voice. I'm worried that the occlusion effect may have caused damage. It was annoying to talk with them in.

The kids were also very loud today and there was a lot of screaming but I'm hoping I'm ok because I had the earplugs in.

I'm still worried I might get a spike and wanted to get your thoughts. Thank you!

Listen to your body. Does your T sound louder today after work? For screaming kids, the silicone plugs should be plenty protective. It may take you a while, but you will learn to trust that they are doing their job.

While delayed spikes are common, I would not get anxious over what has not happened yet.

Glad you made it back to work!

Maybe it seems a little louder now but that might be because I'm expecting it to be louder. I'll try not to get anxious over a delayed spike but that's really what I'm worried about right now. Waking up tomorrow or the next and and it being worse.

Everyone is different. If you don't get a spike you can update the probability (reduce it) that this sort of thing will cause a spike for you. If you get a spike, chances are that it will be temporary.

Ok thank you, so far I don't think it causes a spike. Of course when I wake up today I ended up dropping a bowl in the sink while cleaning it so now I'm hoping it doesn't cause a spike because it was loud.
