Low Energy Neurofeedback System

"The LENS, Low Energy Neurofeedback System, feeds back information to the brain by using a faint radio frequency signal that is based on the person's EEG. The power of this signal is much less than the radio waves that surround us everyday."

I dont know man, sounds too low power to do anything at all. It has the same power as the field around an electrical wire lol. Well, at least can't hurt!

I read somewhere that the voltage has to be this low so that the brain doesn't reject/block the signal.

I don't know, not expecting much.

No it's different. This is all passive on the patients part. They feed different voltages to your brain based on your qEEG scan. You just sit there. I go for my first treatment Monday.
Telis, I have done neuro biofeedback, not sure if that is the same as what you are inquiring about?

yes, I had about 8 probes on my skull, they had complete control of the process, but they gradually gave me control. I just sat there. The process was to help train my brain to fill the gaps. which is the tinnitus we hear.

As far as I understand, those were just electrical sensors that you had on your head that were reading and sending back information. This is obviously different as there is a low voltage signal being fed to the brain to alter brain wave activity.

I don't really understand it that well, I will just go and give it a shot. Prob piss away more $$$

I also posted a link on the first message on this thread. It explains how it works.

@Telis I had two different methods, the one you refer seeking I had one session, they reverted me back to the other without the electrical stimulation as well. They said I needed a combination of the two, but I was pretty messed up when I went in, and kept me on the more conservative approach. I found it got my anxiety and stress level down after about 10 sessions. It knocked my T around, but I still have it. I am fighting Veteran Affairs, if I can get funding my psych has already recommended the second method I guess, they claim they can target it. I will go ahead if it is not on my dime, worth a shot.

@valeri There is evidence that it can be helpful for management, I found it got my anxiety and stress level down after about 10 sessions. It knocked my T around, but I still have it. I am fighting Veteran Affairs, if I can get funding my psych has already recommended the second method I guess, they claim they can target it. I will go ahead if it is not on my dime, worth a shot. It retrains your brain. I can handle to T and H much better. I am having likely having my worst day yet today and I have zero stress or anxiety, just the screaming, so I am better than 5 months ago. I am also doing mindfulness. TRT is a very likely option I will consider if I can get funding.

I had a qEEG scan done here in Calgary. This is the treatment they recommend for me. They are telling me it should help reduce my tinnitus.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm starting neurofeedback on Monday!
What was your experience?

@Telis @valeri

This is exciting news. The treatment modality is promising for tinnitus, and this year I tried to find a practitioner--but I could not locate one within two hours of my house. And since I'd be going twice a week, I'd have to quit my job to undertake the therapy. I need to find someone closer.

Neurofeedback does not work for everyone. There are several variables, including skill of the practitioner and tinnitus duration. But the treatment is also relatively new for tinnitus and thus it is too early to know how well it will work for the average--however that is defined--tinnitus sufferer.

When do you start treatment? How frequently will you go? How many sessions will it last? How many people have they treated with tinnitus before? What is the cost?

And, of course, please keep us informed about your progress! :) :)

Two years ago, we had someone report about trying neurofeedback and he never came back. One can only assume he was cured!

@Grant1

Did you try neurofeedback for tinnitus? If so, what was your experience? Below is from a post you made in 2013.

I visited the clinic at the University of Antwerp's Hospital (UZA) last year.

I would not be comfortable at this time (maybe some other time) writing a lot of details about myself. However, I can certainly say they are on the cutting edge of treating tinnitus through neuromodulation techniquest at UZA.

Interestingly, I met a patient with whom I have corresponded a few times who was helped by the neurofeedback at UZA. He had tried pharmaceuticals and the various neuromodulation techniques, but the only treatment that helped has truly helped him is neurofeedback. I am unsure, however, where one can utilize neurofeedback for tinnitus outside of UZA.

I enjoy your posts Markku and will post my more about my experience at UZA as I can.

Hi Jazz,

It was 795 dollars for the initial scan and 75 per treatment after. I'm starting with 10 treatment sessions. I went for my first treatment yesterday, obviously too early to say anything.

I'm optimistic this treatment will help you. It's not a cure, but it should reduce your tinnitus and hyperacusis significantly.

Keep us informed! :)

I am currently on my 6th trial of LENS neurofeedback. The T is pretty much the same however at times I manage much better than when I first went in. I am showing some improvement in my brain scans. I don't travel everywhere with my ear buds anymore which I use for masking music, so that is a plus. I'm giving it a few more sessions, as it is a slow process. I have had some better days with management but one afternoon of going crazy can make you dismiss the good days! My T is also somatic where I can manipulate it when clenching my jaw like a lot of people, as well as, when I bend my neck. I am also seeing a neurologist and a TMJ specialist soon. I hope that I can just make it more manageable or bring the volume down where I don't hear it or notice it as much. Trying to let go as much as I can but that can be difficult.

I'm doing neurofeedback, 4 sessions down, 6 to go.
I was told usually it takes about 4-6 weeks to start noticing (if) any improvement.

So far nothing for me!

Hey Rich.

I've had about 6 treatments, no improvement so far. I will try it for another couple weeks, see what happens.
Can you please go here on this place and have your brain checked and then have analysis of brain and then you send on paper and ask if dr jeanmonod can he help you. And keep this papers because it will always show your brain analysis.

Thanks Christian. I had the same scan done here in Calgary. I can post it here I guess, not sure if anyone can read it?

Anyway I'm done this treatment. A couple of grand later, nothing!

Now few of us will go for HIFU and Belgium too, and rTMS and we will see, there were people for tinnitus on HIFU and they reported positive results... so... we see. if nothing work then well... (personally i am not going to live with this, i have progresive my worsens every 9 months)
