Hi,

Would you guys be so kind to offer some help regarding which massage types you would recommend for lowering the volume or at least relieving anxiety caused by tinnitus?

Deep tissue massage?
Ayurvedic?
Cranial osteopathy?
Something else?

These are all expensive in the UK so I'd like to hear about your experiences before trying one of these. If you can recommend anyone in particular as a specialist, that would be amazing. Thanks all.

I used to go to somebody who specialised in tinnitus massage. She basically concentrated on neck, shoulders, face and head, as well as the back. She was good, and can you find someone who has experience in treating tinnitus patients that's a good idea. I don't think you need to look for something particularly fancy though, any massage will be of benefit. I have been thinking about cranial osteopathy, but my therapist suggested I should try what's available within the national health insurance before paying for expensive private treatment. So I've booked with a physiotherapist she recommended who specialises in tinnitus treatment. At a very reasonable price. There must be people like that in London? Couldn't you get remitted to something like that within the NHS?

Hi Catarina and Sound Wave,

Catarina, when you say the tinnitus specialist was good, did it immediately lower the volume of your tinnitus for a while or do you think it calmed your nerves, i.e. anxiety which made it easier to deal with tinnitus? I will try to look whether I can find a specialist on the NHS specialising in tinnitus treatment, at the moment I have to say I haven't had much luck.

You might want to give this also a try + read more about trigger points and Tinnitus.

Looks interesting Sound Wave - I try to do some of these myself from time to time (just intuitively). Have these exercised helped your tinnitus? How often do you do them? Many thanks!

Sometimes my tinnitus would get louder right after the massage, but after about half an hour or so it would calm down to a slighter lower volume. I think it mainly helped in easing tensions round the neck and face which also eased the tinnitus slightly.

The first time I found the trigger points in my left sternocleidmastoid muscle (SCM) and squeezed them for a while like in this video, I got radiating pain in different areas of my head and my T also changed sound. After that some 2-3 days were the best and most quiet ever. After that my T did came back. I am continuing with physiotherapy and posture changes.

Hi.
I am experienced in body massage and can do it for a half price in the client's home or for £15 per 30 min / £25 per 60 min in my home (London, SE6 2QF).

I can qurantee that after massage you will sleep well the following night. I have tried this on myself when another masseur did me massage.

Same time I have got tinnitus in 2 years (moderate grade on the expert opinion or severe grade on my opinion) and hearing loss (L=33%, R=23%) which is not due to my age. Personally, I don't hear noise when I do heavy physical work (massage, gardening, sport exersices).
The reason is long working in noisy environment (bowling) where the employer was in breach of Health and Safety Regulations.

I had 3 sesssion of massage, once a week, (they work mostly with joints) from London School of Osteopathy but it did not help with my tinnitus.

"I transform grumpy peiple... into happy people". Once again I cannot treat tinnitus completely.

I have noise induced T, but oddly after getting a massage from a pretty upper end place, my jaw is slightly sore and my T is a bit more higher and pitch little more annoying. She worked extensively on neck and ear areas, like the video above, putting pressure in around the side of ear where jaw/ear connect.

Seems strange that this type of massage and pressure she put on me would affect noise induced T...which has nothing to do with what she was messing with...yet here I am at end of day with T now a bit sharper in pitch and more noticeable. I don't see how this can be. I'd be grateful if this was a worse before better type of after effect, and I guess I'll find out once I get some sleep.
