Meniere's Disease

Yep,@SueR , it seems to be like that everywhere. I quess the doc i saw wanted to wait to see if i get vertigo to be certain. And vertigo i got. So Definite MD in my case.

Certain Ménière's disease

  • Definite Meniere's disease, plus histopathological confirmation
Definite Ménière's disease

  • Two or more definitive spontaneous episodes of vertigo 20 minutes or longer
  • Audiometrically documented hearing loss on at least one occasion
  • Tinnitus or aural fullness in the treated ear
  • Other causes excluded
Probable Ménière's disease

  • One definitive episode of vertigo
  • Audiometrically documented hearing loss on at least one occasion
  • Tinnitus or aural fullness in the treated ear
  • Other causes excluded
Possible Ménière's disease

  • Episodic vertigo of the Ménière's type without documented hearing loss, or
  • Sensorineural hearing loss, fluctuating or fixed, with dysequilibrium but without definitive episodes
  • Other causes excluded

I asked about the possibility of it being migraine w/o pain instead of Meniere's, since i'm having all sorts of vision issues. She said it could be I have something else in addition to the Meniere's, but that she feels certain it's Meniere's.

I'm having more ear problems. Still not bad, but Sunday I did have one beer. I had gone w/o for 22w2d (but who's counting! hahahah)

So, going to document it. I also did some weird yoga things yesterday and wonder if it has anything to do with the things I did in yoga. My position in the studio was not optimal either. Had never been there before, wanted the people on my "good side", but then it ended up I was really close to the heating vent, and that ended up sounding very loud to me due to the H. and the heavy breather two people down from me. Normally, wouldn't bother me. it was super loud after doing this weird neck thing. I didn't like the neck thing (ball under the neck), and won't be doing it again. It actually hurt when I went to move off the ball, and that's when all the noises seemed louder.

a ball under the neck---- wow. what is that.

Beer is good. 22weeks without? Never done that.
Seems to me that MD in it´s very true and pure existence is about balance issues (dizziness and vertigos)
and weird sensations in the ear.
Yes, i have read that migraine can cause some sort of vertigos.
Vestibular migraine: VM

Do you have hearing loss or ear pressure?

If i think myself here: i wouldnt have got this diagnose without those violent hours-long vertigo attacks.
I dont know what the diagnose might have been then.... Possible MD perhaps or perhaps "we dont know what it is but it is not dangerous". I mean i had had all the other symptoms for about 2 years ,documented by the doctors,->no diagnose. i saw the doctor twice a year or so. Every time it was like "let´s see a few months more. this is interesting". And then the first vertigo hit me: "yes, you have MD.... start coping, son"

I dont understand why this disease is such a multifaceted one. Is multifaceted a good word meaning versatile...
i picked it up from a dictionary.

don't forget to add the hearing loss!

the ball under the neck. I think it was supposed to releive the tension at the base of the skull. My first class, I did what I was told. Not again.

I have a little bit of ear pain now and again. Nothing severe. I've had fullness, but not for quite some time.

Only time I have ever gone 22 weeks w/o beer was when I was pregnant!

as far as my dx goes. My symptoms are very mild, so... if they want to call it MD, that's fine. I will do what I can about the diet and balance exercises, and if it turns out to not be MD, I doubt it'll be anything curable. So, I'll continue to stay the course.

yes, hearing loss is one basic issue with this.

I think i could drink a few beers every day. Easily.
With my new meds it is not so good idea. Psychiatrist got mad when i told about m drinking habit.
"no, the pills wont help you if you keep drinking like that".
All the lecturing actually worked this time: i stayed one week t-total.
4 weeks now with the pills. I feel kinda good. 4 best weeks during this year.

I'm a good doobie... try my best to keep doc's orders. Haven't quite got the caffeine down, or the sodium. I've been through a lot of stress though, and was glad to at least get the alcohol down.

I was living with my not-yet-ex (different parts of the house)
had a big Eagle Court of Honor for my two boys and a third boy, in-laws in town, which was difficult considering the pending divorce
graduation of my second son (out of two)
off to college with him, which came with stresses, since he has disabilities (dealing with accommodations and crap - he's legally blind and hearing impaired, cerebral palsy)
I moved out
traveling for work

But, I'm starting to get into a groove. Now I am dealing with the details of the divorce. My ex is difficult to deal with.

@SueR @MichaelM

Hey guys. I have read the threads you wrote just now. I have a flu and it makes things even worse. But still no vertigo attacks.

It is at least good that you have a definite diagnosis Michael. Did you try TTI dextametazone? It is usually well tolerated.

Suer, I once used to run or walk fast depending on the state of my imbalance. It helped me. Actually if you are doing this to improve your balance ping-pong or just walking around could be helpful too.

Personally I think I have two things: some form of ototoxicity and mild MD. Look at my tent: these are different audiometries in one week. I lost the high frequencies just in one day sitting around without any vertigo..

The "classic audiometry" of Meniere I posted has similarities to yours and mine. My bass sounds are intact unlike the one I shared, on the other hand your higher frequencies are intact unlike the one I shared again.

Admitting, my tent is oddly shaped :D

@aylp

I posted my audiograms on page 3 of this thread. I sure could not find the classic MD "tent" but my hearing most definately fluctuates....which is indicative of MD. I actually have all the symptoms except the vertigo.

@Teri

I think we are walking in the same shoes here. You have seen my audiometries, they are within a week!

But Classic Meniere's patients would probably argue that we do not have Meniere's.

It is like Schrodinger's cat: Before you take the temporal bone out in autopsy, you cannot know for certain if you have Meniere's. Thus, it is completely plausible that you have Meniere's and you don't at the same time. :)

Its always good to have an option... with vertigos i do not have that anymore. MD it is.
From the very first signs of MD it took 3 years for the first violent vertigo to hit in my case. And 2 years for the mild one.
First distorted sounds, then hearing loss and then ear pressure.
Then came the Tinnitus from Hell.

Vertigos kept me waiting.
Now i know all them.

No wonder if are under stress. From my experience it is the one and only thing making this MD-business worse for me. I was under a huge pressure and stress for the best part of this year and that made suffering from MD even harder. Now that i have got rid of the stress mostly life seems kinda OK.
I hope things will settle down for you soon. Divorce can cause huge stress.

I did a psychological fight with the diagnose. I absolutely didnt believe it for months. Now i am fine with it.
Got it in last Feb. I still hate it but i can spend days withouth thinking of it.

Havent tried dextametazone. I am taking bupropion now for anxiety and to keep me going.

Words seem inadequate to express the sadness I feel about everyone suffering from Meniere's disease. I bore with it for last 10 years. I still remember its first attack and it is one of the worst one too. That pain lasts for several hours and later on I checked with an audiologist in Hearing solutions in Oakville place. Taken the prescribed medication such as Betahistine and at first it didn't aid me, but afterwards it helps me to feel better. I know there is only less chances for curing this worst disease, but now I have learned to adjust with it! I am happy now.

Are you guys symptomless in between attacks?
Vertigo attacks? Nope. In my case the attacks are only a small part of this.

When MD is at it's worst i find myself hoping for the attack since after it i get a few days symptomless time.

The word symptomless isnt good with me. I feel MD every second when awake but lets say mild symtoms can occur for a couple of days after the vertigo.

I envy the guys who are symptom-free in between attacks. I don't get any attacks, so the suffering is constant...

Hi @aylp
Thanks again!
When I had last sudden hearing loss, doc gave me Acetazolamide, which helped loss and pressure in ear, BUT my T did increase BUT that could have been anxiety over temporary hearing loss. But,but, but...
