MuteButton

That great update from @Steve leads me to my next question.

If this Neuromod device is all it's cracked up to be how much trouble is it going to be to get it in the US market?

It's a European company developing a product with European medical device rules.

I'm sure they want to sell it in the US as well. Hopefully that's something they have been working on all this time. This feels like an obstacle to me.

The MuteButton update says very little. I was under the impression they were releasing this side of Christmas...?

The FDA are another example of a Civic Authority that has its core systems using 70's technology like the Irish Civil Service. To them it's all about maintaining jobs and preserving the process - Not getting things done in a realistic timeframe.

I am done speculating on MuteButton - Release it and let me try it. Simple...

I have to admit that being back on the site here is both addictive and depressing - So much misery... I want to help people and I realise it's impossible - I am heartbroken for so much suffering going on.

What impresses me most are the Directors of the site and their professional/calm/deeply caring approach to the afflicted.

I want to give everyone a big hug and say it'll be ok - As I will be one of the first to try this device I feel a responsibility to the group.

Have a good evening everyone and try to switch off anyway you can... We all deserve some respite.

Please come back and let us know how it works out for you. You will prob have the first crack at using the device!

I don't think so, if the evidence is good I'm gonna be on a plane circling Dublin ready to skydive straight to the clinic when they release.
With earplugs of course.

I'm coming with you!

If people are coming over - Let's get together for a Guinness...

Sounds good! :beeranimation:

We can all wear our MuteButtons in the pub... And promptly drown our sorrows when we realise that yet again we've been royally shafted.
I've just drunk half a bottle of red wine.

My tinnitus has gone down by approx 75%... So it can be done - it's just a matter of how.

42% reduction surely is achievable...

If not then Shore's device is right behind...

If not then yes by all means let's go sky diving without a parachute... I'm in... We can have the Guinness before we go.

  • Susan Shore = University of Michigan
  • University of Minnesota
  • Neuromod
And of course other potential approaches to stimulate the brain combined with some form of tonal therapy, or maybe something other than sound as the companion to the brain "priming" element.

I can't wait to hear about your experiences with the device.

I'm really trying to separate myself from this site for a while so I can concentrate on getting myself to a better place.

I've developed a bit of an addiction to this forum since I discovered it. Some days I've spent hours here when I think that time could have been spent better working on my tinnitus issue.

This topic of Neuromod and Susan Shore keeps me coming back looking for any info I haven't read already.

I'm kinda at that point where I often think these somewhat mythical devices are my only hope at happiness again.

I'm going to give myself the weekend to stay on this site then I'm taking a break.

I'll be back because there are clearly people here that are motivated by these devices like I am.

It's always good to take a break sometimes. Clear your head and get in a better zone. I do the same myself when I start to feel overwhelmed. We'll be here when you get back!

Dude FX-322 is going to beat them to the market I bet, although that would only help with tinnitus from loss of hair cells.

How soon is that dropping?!

If I wanted to get rid of my somatic tinnitus, would I have to use this device regularly?
It appears so. 30 min to an hour a day, but I think the treatment lasts for a time period when you stop, but the effects of the treatment linger for a while afterwards.

I thought it reduces the tinnitus forever.
Not forever, but you can reapply the treatment when it starts fading. Apparently the test runs for a full year. So it could be like 2 months of treatment and 10 months of tinnitus reduced and then repeat.

I wonder how loud the sounds/tones that go in your ear are?

Anything above 40-45 dB I couldn't do, because of my hyperacusis.

What will this device likely cost?
Back in 2014, I asked them just that question, and they said this:

"It will retail at €2500 which includes €2200 for the device and €300 for the consultation with the audiologist who configures the device to each patients hearing profile. As our sales increase and the costs of manufacture decrease however we do hope to bring that price down slightly over the coming years."

The device was pulled from the market a short while after though, and the promised peer-reviewed publication never came to be. This time around it's hopefully a different story.
