My Posting Place

Well tbh I don't know. It's not really like this anymore but at one point, MPP kind of existed "outside the law". Some of the mods were tolerant of us but others really wanted us gone. Now we just kind of exist as part of the site, and everyone can choose to ignore MPP or go on it.

Everyone on the site knows that we're all about research. We're the biggest research enthusiasts on the site, and thats why ATEOS said that MPP is the place where the best minds on TT gather.

Basically, idk about adding that sticky. We lose an important part of our past if we do, and it just tells everyone on the site what they already know. Thoughts?
Well, I agree that a sticky would be largely extraneous for steady TT members. The sticky to me would more be for transient guests from the web so that they can clearly see that there is legit, wholesale pushing and desire for regenerative science.
I thought it a good compromise to not having a separate sister thread. As IMHO your "come for the memes, stay for the activism" observation is a good point.

Those are my thoughts, as requested.

"come for the memes, stay for the activism"

I don't want to be a shit stirrer here, but what activism? I get what MPP is about, and respect what you have going on here, but if you really want to stand up and be counted you all need to do more than post memes on this thread.

There are many of you here, so why don't you step up your approach if you're all really serious? Combine your efforts into something meaningful and make something happen. There are loads of things you could do to objectively help.

Don't take this the wrong way, it's just an observation.

"Activism" was a strong word (@threefirefour's). I can't speak for anyone else but my intent was for raising greater awareness on TT for members and guests regarding hidden hearing loss, and pushing for regenerative treatments. This thread happens to be where several such-minded individuals tend to gather.
But yes, ultimately imo that is a very modest goal, and I also don't know if I'm succeeding in doing anything significant towards it either. But, it feels like a modest goal could be within reach. And I get to complain at the same time...tbh :-
Note too that there are many different types of people on this thread.

Once again, I can't speak for anyone else, but I am interested. What would you recommend?

I have donated to HHF and houghear,(obviously I didn't do it under the contrast identity, or officially in the name of MPP)

we got more people on the forum interested in research and questions, We provoked the status quo to show we really want help.

My repetitive questions and complaints have been alerted to the BTA, hopefully research is done to answer them.
(at the same time I was scolded for being a wannabe-otoneuroscientist)

Overall MPP's viewpoint seems to be the silent majority.

I believe that since the beginning, a major part of Tinnitus Talk has been treatments and research, and I mean treatments and research that genuinely attempt to silence tinnitus.

Even before MPP was born, we had prioritized Research News and Treatments above Support.

But yes, I think MPP has its place.

I think @threefirefour and @Contrast both were close to being banned many times, and MPP being deleted.

I however wanted to see how it all plays out. I had this gut feeling about these two gentlemen, which turned out to be correct.

Admins with less patience might not opt to see things through like I tend to do.

Keep it goin'

It's all on this site though. I don't see how any of this helps in the real world. Everybody who has signed up here would ideally want a cure or treatment that works and that goes without saying. If you want things to change you have to do a lot more than post memes on a thread within a forum full of sufferers.

The biggest challenge is to get the non-sufferers to listen which requires working outside of the realm of this site. Making phone calls and emailing people. Talking to the press, or other people of influence. Do things that move the cause forwards.

My honest opinion of MPP is that it's a wasted opportunity.

For venting and helping each other by having a laugh, however, it serves its purpose really well.

1) Markku thank you for this site!!
2) I did notice a while back that "Research News" is the very first thread listed, and that is great.
3) You guys are awesome with free speech! (This is a general observation.)

To a cure soon.

Yeah really it's sad how few admins actually give a damn about free speech. It's definitely a breath of fresh air.
I see both sides to it. Ill agree with whatever you want to do. MPP is your child after all!
MPP belongs to everyone. I don't have a monopoly on it or anything. I'll run a strawpoll soon and see what everyone thinks.

Strong growth expected in the tinnitus drug market

From the above link:

"Some of the key players identified and discussed in the report are Actavis, Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals, Mylan, Pfizer, Sandoz, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, and Teva."

They're starting to smell the money. Let the games begin.
cool Sandoz invented LSD. the fuckin dumbest drug in the history of mankind.

The way that I see it is that there are other sections on the site which focus solely on research and development as well as alternative treatments. This thread is a break from the seriousness of the condition that we have and for many, serve as an outlet to cope. MPP is very much needed when talk of suicide is the norm.

Realistically, if we were to try and make a difference we would have to focus our efforts on a single (different) thread. Currently, I don't believe that a forum section exists that falls under that category. Someone mentioned the word before that would be perfect, "Activism", for which no category on TT exists for; but there sure needs to be. Precisely because what MPP does best is memes, pure and simple.

Respectfully, I think that whatever decision that @threefirefour makes in regards to his thread is the right one as he created it.

I didn't know this but am very happy to now know this piece of history of TT and MPP. I am very happy both were given the ability to stick around.

I told you guys from the get go that once people see where the technology was going and that we were close to getting somewhere with legit drugs, the people that can fund it will come. Once the sharks smell blood, or money in this case, they will come far and wide and it will become a race. I guarantee once the mechanism is known to reverse hearing damage there will be a HUGE rat race to get it figured out.

Tinnitus affects 10-20% of the population. NIHL affects even more. That is a HUGE market to make money.

Yeah check out early MPP. The first 50 pages and then some were a wild ride.

This is going to sound SUPER CRINGE and SUPER CORNY, but one day (hopefully soon) when tinnitus is a thing of the past, TT will soon fade with it because tinnitus will no longer be an issue. People or researchers may look back on it though and use it as a reference for how people deal with terrible illnesses and how they interact with each other to cope. TT is as raw as it gets when it comes to illness and needed support. I guarantee it will have some sort of use even when the need for it passes.

Yeah I think one day in the future somebody is going to run into this and be like "wtf'?

Maybe there is some truth to the old myths.

HOLY SHIT! I can kinda see why MPP was close to getting banned. The memes were very borderline offensive. This is by far my favorite that I have found so far.

It was also upsetting and making me angry to see how mean people were being to you when MPP started. They had no idea what was to come!
