Guys do you really think an afterlife/reincarnation can exist scientifically? The only thing I can think of without having to resort to quantum physics, dark matter, higher dimensions, parallel universes is that the first law of thermodynamics states "contained energy cannot be created or destroyed" the neurons making up my brain have existed since the big bang and will exist after a hypothethical collapse and re-bigbang of a new universe. assuming this process of universe recreation and destruction is eternal and all matter in the universe/multi-verse has always existed eventually the exact matter that made me conscious is going to reform inside the brain of an alien baby.

It may It may not take place until 9718921358956900289589204583249289068290443358023350258092582800892520189291924029349250300 years the power of itself digits after I kill myself. but because I'm dead I won't be conscious until eons of universes have passed until one of them randomly reuses the neurons that made my consciousness. I most likely will not have any recollection of my previous life assuming that because I didn't have any recollection of a life before I was born.

This is the only good afterlife hypothesis that I can think of but it assumes the universe is constantly recreated and destroyed. Other then that there is only quantum consciousnesses or being dead wrong about the super natural and the crazy reality that I am wrong about the super natural and an eternity in hell could be on the table. But overall I don't have proper evidence to support the existence of an afterlife and it is likely that after brain death I just end.
Reincarnation I guess could be theoretically possible of consciousness is a state that can be replicated, but I highly highly doubt an afterlife exists. Both have a very slim chance of existing tbh.

it wouldn't be an afterlife. just whatever gave me consciousness continues existing.

The only thing that can give consciousness is the brain. Once that stops I doubt there can be consciousness. Maybe if consciousness is a state a mind can fill, then maybe consciousness can happen again in some other animal on some other planet, but that's the only logical afterlife I can think of.

What if the brain is like the ear (or any sensory organ), it does not create consciousness but it filters it. I'm assuming consciousness is quantum.

I have long theorized something similar to what Contrast is saying.

I think the universe will re-contract at some point and then another big bang will follow and this will keep happening infinitely and when you are dealing with infinity, consciousness will repeat itself. You don't experience the time you don't exist so it would be like waking from surgery or a coma. It would seem like the snap of a finger.

But because experiences and genetics make you, "you", you definitely won't be the same but I think we will all experience life over and over and over again. Some lives will be good, some bad.

Maybe it's a blessing we wouldn't remember. Can you imagine the baggage?

This is none of my business, @Contrast
And I'm not in your circle or sphere of influence so you have no reason to listen to me but please don't kill yourself.

Look, I was a veterinarian for 15 years, I realize sometimes euthanasia is the right decision so I'm not going to just preach that it's just blanket wrong for everyone, but can you give yourself more time to improve from whatever you are dealing with first?

Clearly whatever it is, is truly horrible to be contemplating this action but things can and do change--either through technology, medicine or newfound support.

In the meantime, just do whatever you have to do to get by. You are smart--easily one of the smartest here--if anyone can figure something out to engineer at least a little better situation inch by inch, it's you.

if you read about near death experiences you realize it's

tunnel vision from lack of blood flow to the eyes explains the bright light and void

the flash of random memories is the part of the brain associated with memories literally dying

the flying and ecstasy is endorphins and happy chemicls or even DMT being released as the brain is in shock.

it doesn't explain everything such as people being told by "beings of light or Jesus or whatever supernatural that they have to return to Earth, or how they claim to see there own bodies from a third person view. But over all NDE's that most people have are just simple bright lights and dark tunnels. Nothing else.

Seriously research NDE's it's a mysterious topic. It is too based on anecdotal evidence though to be scientifically sound and I am inclined to believe many many people LIE. Yet the bright tunnel, void, flashes of random memories are universal it seems.

It doesn't make sense that people report seeing loved ones, beings of light or religious figures or even celebrities. It is difficult to believe an oxygen deprived brain can hallucinate that intensely. Quantum consciousnesses could defend it as real but that requires a leap of faith I don't have.

NDE's require too much on anecdotal evidence and are not reliable.

My main problem is how did I exist as myself in the first place? Why was I not born as a Zebra or a person from the year 1921? I may be over thinking consciousnesses but I don't understand how my existence is me and not any other living organism. I feel this is a valid mystery of consciousness.

doctors can bring people back from braindeath within hours or something

but what if the exact same matter that made up my brain billionss of years later was reconstructed in another body of myself, that would resurrect consciousnesses.

Having experienced temporary ego death, I see consciousness as a signal that the human body can pick up. I don't think it's located in the brain, and I don't think individual consciousness exists.

Not that I'm convinced that reincarnation is real, but the first step to at least trying to make sense of it is to argue that individual consciousness doesn't exist. The human experience is the universe experiencing itself and not the other way around.

If you want to read some old-timey theories about this stuff try the Vedas.

Are you familiar with psychedelics? Of course all those things are possible hallucinations or possible reality

my main problem is how did I exist as myself in the first place? ….I don't understand how my existence is me and not
You don't exist as a discrete entity in the way that you think you do, and your existence is not you. The thing you think of as "I" is a self-constructing delusion, and it's quite possible to quiet it past stillness, to a place where there is no I, there is no you, and there is only unfiltered awareness.

Hope this helps! The shortest path between two points is always a circle, if this seems incorrect it means you are not using the correct geometry.

1) Sanders
"When you're white, you don't know what it's like to be living in a ghetto. You don't know what it's like to be poor. You don't know what it's like to be hassled when you walk down the street or you get dragged out of a car,"
-Bernie Sanders, a career politician worth millions of dollars that has never had a real job and wants us to basically be communists.

My wife lived with her grandmother in a shack with an outhouse for a time during her childhood. I knew several white kids when I was growing up that lived in the projects, my cousin grew up in a trailer park. I have been held at gun point by cops once while I was putting up signs for my lost kitty kat because some old woman got spooked and called them on me and I had a staple gun. I literally had 3 cops with their glocks out yelling telling me to drop the stapler and I wasn't even arguing with them. Bernie Sanders is just an old racist prick that is trying to stir up racial divisions and make non-white people hate white people. Why are people "like him" ;) always stirring up shit?

also my wife and I just started watching Malcolm in the Middle and that show is a lot better than I remember. it's sort of like a Wonder Years where it seems like everyone is on a tiny dose of LSD all the time, super zany

edit: @JohnAdams we may be really far apart on the political spectrum and my reasoning may be very different than yours, but I will say that as a Vermonter there's no way I'll ever vote for Sanders for any office other than being a senator from Vermont. If he gets the nomination I will vote for myself in the general ;)

Come on, racism is massive in most countries. Even if it's subtle. It's just the effect of class and money on people's lives gets underestimated. Though I don't know what he means about race meaning you don't know what it is to be poor.

You guys do realize

THIS MAN IS WHY TRT BECAME THE GOLD STANDARD
IN THE mid 90's he went parading to everyone about TRT and lobbyied the Government with the early ATA to make TRT a standard.

I'm fucking scared knowing medical practices can be influenced by celebrities and not science.

for all those who responded to my post about an afterlife, reincarnation or universal consciousness

I don't have proper evidence. It's too anecdotal to believe any of you.

It makes me angry knowing some tinnitus sufferers killed themselves at the altar of idiocracy feeling guilt for failing TRT.

Our favorite journalist told me how he treats sufferers and it makes me furious. ie telling people loud noise doesn't cause permanent spikes, not to wear ear plugs, they should go to concerts, giving them self guilt for being disabled unable to work, and how he doesn't even know what hyperacusis is and ignores science of those defining it. This makes no sense! The United States views THIS MAN'S PHILOSOPHY as a medical treatment gold standard all because of a Canadian actor

I think it's safe to say at this point, TRT is dangerous to people's health.

pallative management strategies need to be seperate from medical intervention to modify/cure diseases. PMS does not to anything to modify a disease or it's symptoms it just psychologically brainwashes the patient into accepting it.

About a year ago I was wattching a youtube video of a pyschologist lecturing a room full of boomers who suffered with chronic pain. His goal was to teach then pain and suffering were separate. He uses scientific words to define pain like "noxious stimuli" and attempts to separate them from mental suffering. He's a fucking idiot brainwashing old people he failed to realize NOXIOUS STIMULI IS MEANT TO CAUSE AGONY" Our brains are hardwired to process that information that way. You can't and should not untrain those parts of the brain. These pyschologist fucking scare me it's total fucking pseudo science brainwash that is CRUEL TOWARDS SENIORS. This guy literally discriminates against old people, they actually believe this bullshit because they are senile and came from a generation that lacked critical thinking so they are easy to fall for pyschological brainwash.

ACT IS A PSEUDOSCIENCE

This + addictive lethal Opiods is the GOLD STANDARD for treating painful diseases in the year 2019. This is the progress medicine has made, compare that to progress technology has made.

Very sad and unfortunate to read this @JohnAdams it must have been very frightening for you.....
