I am not sure why. I do not visit MPP often, but from what I have seen there are far more damaging, rude, hurtful, and mean things posted in the support section.

Seriously everytime. Everytime I talk about my tinnitus and the fact I have no hearing loss up to 19khz (tested btw) or no hearing distortions, people just say "Hidden hearing loss ofc". You can have tinnitus without hearing loss you know, don't know why people don't want to admit it.

Personally I still think all tinnitus is caused by hearing loss and that it only takes one hair cell to be screwed up in a certain way (that we don't know yet) to cause tinnitus. If you would lose just one frequency over night, you never could tell. That's why people won't usually notice hearing loss because it happens so slowly and you kinda forget how clear sounding everything used to be

I don't think it's caused by just one missing hair cell.

Most likely when a section of hair cells are missing the brain acts as an internal hearing aid amplifying the damaged frequencies and in the process amplifies neuronal noise (tinnitus) and amplifies non damaged frequencies (hyperacusis)
