• Accordingly, if we can train the brain to classify tinnitus-related neuronal activity as representing a neutral, nonsignificant signal, then the process of habituation will occur automatically. To achieve this, it is necessary, however, to fulfill two basic conditions:
  • removal of the negative association attached to tinnitus perception.
  • preservation of tinnitus detection (but not necessary perception) during treatment.
• Another important property of Tinnitus Retraining Therapy is that it cannot create any harm.

I genuinely don't understand how anyone could read this and not see it for the obvious patient-blaming and gaslighting it is. That's like saying the severity of chronic pain is irrelevant, if you just respond positively your brain will tune it out. Also, TRT can and has harmed patients. Whether it's pain-hyperacusis patients that relapsed or people whose tinnitus got worse, the advice given by TRT practitioners isn't safe for everyone.
