sorry I haven't posted in four days. I've been doing Linux boomer things, such as getting a better understanding of how to build software from source and watching unstable libraries rek havoc on my system. Forcing me to make backups and restore everytime I goof up.

I am honestly confused why some physicist say consciousness is a huge mystery that needs research and others say it's an epiphenomenon that should be left to the neuroscientist. Everyone who knows about hearing research knows science is political. Controversial ideas don't get grants. Physicist who research consciousness as if it were something elementary to the Universe are criticized. Especially by skeptic mobs that unironically have herd mentality. Individuals like Deepak Chopra give consciousness research a bad name, but it doesn't take away serious scientific inquiry about what role mental phenomena plays in the nature of reality. There are too many serious voices that are saying this. Instead of saying consciousness is fundamental or God. What needs to be said is that science suspects mental phenomena are elementary to the Universe in some way and we don't understand it at all. It's the only way to make sense of consciousness honestly.





Materialistic Identity theory of mind allows for Philosophical Zombies to exist. Materialism metaphysics permits a universe where I am shitposting on this forum without any conscious experience. The same electrochemical patterns in my brain would be firing as I shitpost without any consciousness.



The amount of criticism some scientist have got for suggesting proto-consciousness exist to explain abiogenesis is unreal. For me a curious lay person, it seems reasonable. Yet in the Academic world, abiogenesis has to be a random meaningless dumb one in a bajillion chance. Suggesting a pre-cursor to consciousness is present is hardwired into the Universe is basically heresy.





For centuries philosophers have suggested mental states and volition are cosmic attributes and it's not until recently that this becomes a scientific problem, not a philosophy one. Nothing I am shitposting about is new in the world of philosophy, it's only new to science.

It's called Prisoner's Dilemma. If everyone pays, it makes sense to not pay. If everyone doesn't pay, it makes sense to not pay. So no matter what happens, it makes sense to not pay. Another way to think about it is that the probability that your payment (like your vote) actually reverses the outcome is zero, so again there is only one strategy that's rational.

Having said that, I agree with you. They need to create technology and incentives that would make it rational for payments to be exchanged. Hoping that the people choose to do the thing that benefits us and not the people is dumb.

Thanks for your concern, it was mostly panic as my hearing improved for a day (and is now back to muffled). I will be visiting my GP in an hour. I hope it's not impacted because I'm not sure if there's a safe way to remove the wax:/ perhaps it's infected and I'll be prescribed some antibiotics. I'm quite nervous (as I always am about anything concerning my ears), hopefully I'll be okay.
