Stress/ Air Pressure from flying
Hey Guys, Ive Had T since i was 14. Im 22 now. I don't know the reason how i got it but it is what it is. It wasn't really loud at all so i habituated really fast. I hardly noticed it at all. Out of no where my T worsened. It got noticeably louder and high pitched! Its like i started from scratch all over again. Stressed out and scared. Its been 3 weeks like this and i just wish it could go back to the way it was!! Any advice???!

Hey Blero, like you I started out young (8 I think) and I have actually noticed my T getting louder It takes some time getting use to, a few months ago back in late March I had a break down or 2 (literally lost my mind one day at school) because my ears and head were hurting but mostly because of the significant change in my T I was going a bit crazy, I really know where you are right now, and Its really frustrating, your not alone my t can get insanely pitched and loud So don't stress we are in this together! As for advice I don't know if it will go back to the way it was (mine kind of changes a lot from okay to really to bad) but find something you love to do and pour all of your feelings into you need to remind yourself that you can live around this change because there are so many things that you love to do that its worth fighting against this change in your t for, Your 22 years old, you are so young, have fun, use this as a chance to find out more about yourself, when you think about it you can use this to learn and understand new things, I did and now because I'm doing that I'm looking for an opportunity to make living with tinnitus count for something, Remember that because T can make life hard sometimes, it makes us all the more special because we live our lives while we fight tinnitus.

All the best :) -Georgia

During those 6 years, did you do all you could to avoid acoustic traumas , stress, overload of drugs, cigarretes?
Do you know the trigger of your T1 and do you suspect what could cause your T2? Did you go to any doc , checked you hearing ? We can't really help if you don't give any data. There's no magic way of getting back to previous level. You may hope it passes and take care of your body...

@Gosia My T1 was out of the blue. I was focusing on trying to hear my gameboy at a low volume and it hit me ever since. I learned to cope with it. I continued to live my life. I would smoke cigarettes, and drink coffee almost everyday. I would always try wearing earplugs at bars/clubs. Sometimes if i forgot my earplugs going to a club my T would spike up that night, but once i slept and woke up my T would be back to baseline. My T2 started when i was playing xbox with the headset on and it got louder/ high pitched out of no where. I used to play xbox all the time with the headset and it never got like this. 2 days before my T2 i had a job interview and i was stressed. I wasn't sleeping properly. Plus i had gone to the beach and was sunburnt. I honestly think this might be from stress or sleep deprived. I haven't gone to the doctor for my ears yet, i figured it would subside on its own. Thinking it might be a spike but a spike doesn't last this long. Habituating to this is going to be difficult.

@Quentino Focusing on listening to my gameboy at a low volume. Really don't know the actual cause. I went to the doctor for my T1 and he said my hearing was perfect with no signs of damage. MRI was good. Nothing wrong. Very strange

@uae96 Maybe.... Like i said, i always played my xbox with headsets at max volume and it never bothered me even with my previous T. Its not even loud at Max volume. IDK if you are familiar with an xbox headset.

Yeah I am familiar with these kinds of head sets I play battlefield 4 on my ps4 but stopped using these headsets :)

@uae96 Thanks man, Did the same happen to you? Hows your T? Any advice?
I'm new to T can't give any good experienced Advice , but for me at night I try to mask if it's not to bad with birds sounds , and morning , well I just go on with my day even if I hear it I try my best not to react and it works !

Inshalla !, becarefull of any meds u take!

@uae96 I will, all of these meds make it worse i heard. Im just trying to change my life style. I stopped smoking, drinking coffee, eating like crap. Maybe thats the reason. I also stopped using the headset as well lol. I have a long journey with this.

This can help T in long term! You're doing well ;)

You have no hearing dammage : be pleased with it, i'm younger than you and my hearing is not a the top because of music i think, and even if i have the chance to have an almost never noticeable T now, I would prefer to have a better hearing.

But i'm doing fine, and so you have too a lot of reasons to be happy!

I was focusing on trying to hear my gameboy

Good news for you, i seriously doubt it caused T. It has just make you realize that you had T. Lots of people got T for no specific reasons.

2 days before my T2 i had a job interview and i was stressed. I wasn't sleeping properly. Plus i had gone to the beach and was sunburnt. I honestly think this might be from stress or sleep deprived.

Recently i learned a friend of my father had occasionnal T in period of stress. When his problems were solved it gradually disappeared.
Stress do not come and go simply. It can accumulate trought time, without you knowing it. Maybe it's that.

@Quentino Im sorry to hear about your hearing loss. Who knows maybe my hearing isn't so perfect after all. I still need to go check if its still good since 7 seven years ago. Im still not sleeping properly, i haven't had a good night sleep since T2 started. Idk what to think anymore. Its really high pitched and difficult to mask at times. I feel lost

@Blero, I'm afraid that you gave the answer. If you listened to sth very often, as I guess, with a headset having had T already you might have made your damage more advanced . It's cumulative. The fact that before nothing happened doesn't mean anything. Nothing will happen 100 times and it will be 101 when sth will change. Mind that even undetectable hearing loss may be enough to trigger T, it's all relative. Going to clubs with earplugs is cool, as long as you don't open your mounth ;) otherwise there is the occlussion effect ( check the thread on TT about this ) . Sleeping bad from time to time could not cause it. I 'd slept like shit the whole year before T so I might evetually suspect there's a connection between this and my current state, but not your one night and job interview stress. This is not enough. Otherwise the whole humanity would be mental. I'd say you can blame yuor headset and clubbing. Spikes can last as long as a few weeks or even months. There are people here who are the proof. What's important now for you is to give your ears ultimate rest until you notice any improvement. You may try a doc and a course of prednisone. You may try NAC , magnesium, vitamins B, but all this works better when administered asap. Writing this I'm watching my bf who's got T and hearing loss with his headset playing a video game and I feel like asking 'what's wrong with you guys ?' ;)

@Gosia LOL, We play video games because it takes our minds away from all of the stress we have in life and plus its just really fun! I stopped using the headset and stopped cigs, and caffein. Where can i get NAC? Do you think my T would reduce in volume if taking these supplements? All i want is for my T to go back to its normal state. I rarely go to clubs anyways. I usually like being able to talk to girls instead of screaming at them at clubs lol Thnaks for the help. Tell your boyfriend to shut the video games off and take you out to dinner

We ate dinner long time ago :) It's 1:25 am in France, I'd rather go to bed :) Where do you live ? I have to order NAC from England or States on the net. Taking it won't harm you, might help repair some cells if you really had a recent significant damage but it's most probably a cumulative effect. Still, it may protect you from further damage. It's always good to regularly check your hearing. Then you can tell if any spike can have sth to do with hearing damage or not. All that having said, there 's only one rule about T and it's its unpredictibility, so we can create theories, but at the end of the day nobody knows nothing..The painful truth is some people may simply be genetically prone to hearing damage and T and will not avoid it no matter what the do. Still, I believe any spike can subside in time. Unfortunately, it's forbidden to us to worry and panic cause this way you tell your brain what's happening is bad and it's right to freak out - your body will behave as if it was in constant danger. We have to behave as if it didn't matter . Easy to say, hard to do.

@Gosia Im from the U.S. Thanks for the Help Gosia! I really hope it will go back down someday or that ill habituate to it so it won't bother me anymore. Thank you

its not a 1 to1 correspondence between damage and tinitus
Old people have reduced hearing yet they dont all have tinnitus do they? so even if theres hearing loss, doesnt mean theres tinnitus. It is a trigger that does it. But once you trigger it, it becomes permanent. Thats why even if you reverse the hearing damage the tinnitus can continue.

@Blero, of course there's a chance ! Remember - unpredictibility ;) and experiences of other people. We can't know, but I'd say you have at least 50 % of chances it will go back to baseline, cause it's '' either it will or either it will not''.

Of course, many people who have hearing loss don't have tinnitus. It's easy to observe. I was the first to say it even if one of my 'famous' doctors said it's the otherwise. After having studies the topic now I come to different conslusion - actually everyone who has hearing loss will have T, but sometimes it's so discret people don't realise it at all. The same way people who have T and who claim they have no hearing damage , actually do have hearing damage but so tiny the audiograms don't detect them yet 'big' enough to have T. ( most audiograms check hearing up to 8 khz only whereas people should be able to hear at least up to 15khz, some even hear up to 20 ) . What's completely unrelative is the intensity of T and this definitely doesn't depend on how much hearing loss one has. When people say they got T because of stress it's not that stress itself causes T but stress causes the cells to die out due to lack of oxygen. Not only loud sounds cause hearing loss as well as loud sounds don't only dmagae our hearing but influence plenty of other organs in our body. You can even become diabetic because of a noisy environment. Whichever it is, at the end of the day T starts because of some damage, so we can assume that if there's a longer spike some more damgae might have occured.

So there is no chance that my tinnitus will subside? back to baseline?

Your T has been at the same level for a long time so it's not a "reactive T".

I mean even if there is changes like you experience now, it seems to not react to sound exposition.
So after the period of stress end , there is great chance that it reduce, in a short or long period.

I have T for more than a year now and it has decrease a little since the beginning.

so according to your reasoning i would be a millionaire by now! Either i will or will not win the lottery and be a millionaire. Your saying the odds are the same as tossing a coin. obviously this is wrong.
and if its so dicreet that people dont realise it, then how could you conclude that they have tinnitus if even they dont know it?

my T also came about with no warning/reason. i have hearing loss in the low ranges which according to my ENT is due to a virus (but i was not sick??) and she reassured me not due to noise damage although i have been to my share of noisy places..

i have heard that alot of times T is caused by neck/back muscles and an osteopath could help with the volume.
wouldn't hurt to try. i see my osteo every month for maintenance. im new to T - only 3 months in and it is 100% not as loud as before. although im also part habituated, if my T went back to what it was when it started i prob couldnt handle it.
