Hi everyone,

So grateful to have found this forum.

I have Hashimotos and my tinnitus started sometime after I was dx.

It comes and goes just like my other thyroid symptoms, lately it has gotten worse, hence I thought I would try to find some online help.

I try to ignore it as much as I can. I notice though it gets worse when I am on the computer for a while or by my heater. I have lots of heaters around as I keep the heat on low so I don't have to heat up the whole house.

I am trying to monitor the situation. I do have it when I get up in the morning, it gets worse at night. I am a nerd by nature so I do a lot of research looking for holistic ways to treat myself as I hate meds. I had to stop spending so much time on the computer, I was studying video editing but after realizing the damage to your eyes and general health I decided to give that up completely. Hope to learn from everyone here on this forum.

Do you grind your teeth or clench your teeth at night as you could have TMJ that can cause tinnitus ?
Also do you have neck pain and not sit up straight when on your computer as that can cause tinnitus with neck problems and right muscles ?....lots of love glynis

@Tinnitus in NJ -- I do not know of any studies that show using a computer has either a causative or an exacerbating effect on tinnitus. Using headphones or speakers at a high volume yes, but nothing else about how a computer works should affect tinnitus. If I may interpose my opinion, I'd say go back to studying video editing if you are passionate about it (I'm an amateur video editor myself); it may mean you have to be careful in situations where you could be exposed to loud sounds, but that should not be such a great burden (e.g. carry earplugs with you at all times; use speakers instead of headphones/earbuds). The result -- engaging in your interests -- will help you shelve tinnitus into the background, and will lessen its disruptive impact on your life.
