N-Acetylcysteine (NAC)

@Karen how much doses per day do u recommend I should take ? I'm only 19 and each pill contains 600 mg , is one enough or should I take 2 ?

Majeed, I think you should start with one pill and see how it works for you. Then, if you think it works, you can up the dose to two pills. I take two 600 mg. pills per day, with no problems, and I think it really helps me.

It's better to take it before or after food ? Cause I know it's really acidic

I take NAC in powder, it's for clearing the nose and the respiratory system.

It's ok or pills are better?

I think the powdered form would be fine. Pills are just easier to take for some people.

Do you think the NAC is helping your tinnitus?

It's been only a week since i begun taking it, so far i don't know.

Butr i take it to protect my not so good hearing, which is the big issue for me now :(

That's good, Quentino. From what I've read, it will protect your ears from further damage. It may or may not help your tinnitus. It took me awhile to tell a difference. But now that I have been taking it for several months, I really believe that it is helping. Good luck; I'd like to hear how it works for you as time goes on!

Thanks for your answer, no problem i will continue to take it ansd say if it helps or not. In facts if it only help to reduce hearing loss trought time i will still be very happy!

I will increase the dose ( 400 mg only now because powder is ... hum, disgusting taste?) when i will buy pills. for now i'm just careful with my ears ( i am more careful but i feel like i have more difficulties to hear, it suck for a 20 years student... maybe i will post a thread about this)

Quentino, Next time you buy NAC, you might want to consider buying the capsules, if they are available in your country. With the capsules, you can't tell it tastes bad. They are easy to take in that form.

Good luck!

I don't want to dissuade anyone from taking NAC but I took it for months along with magnesium and it did not really make a difference

It doesn't really...Just helpful in protecting those hair cells from damage from loud sounds.

We can't even be sure it really protects the hair cells from anything. @Quentino, what do you take, Exomuc ? Better order NAC on amazon ..easier to swallow and I'm not sure it's the same molecule. I had NAC by Solgar, it was plant powder ( so it said ). Exomuc etc are definitely not natural..And you swallow aspartam together with it.
Needless to check in pharmacies, NAC as a suplement is not allowed in France.

I take Fluimucil... wherde do you see it's not authorized in France? i see plenty of websites which propose NAC pills.

N-acetylcistene comes from an amino acid. Amino acids are the building blocks of the body, so, yes, it is a natural supplement. It is also high in antioxidants, so that's a good thing, too. (protection against free radical damage).

I've been taking N-acetylcistene for several months now (600 mg twice per day), and I believe it really does take the edge off my tinnitus. It does NOT take it away, but it does help, and it's good to know it protects the ears from further damage, too.

I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to give it a try. And I'd like to hear your feedback as to how it works for you. I believe it is really working for me. The brand I take is by NOW Foods, and is available on the internet or at vitamin shops.
I've been taking 600 mg per day for the past year now. I can't say it did anything for my T but it may be preventing further damage to what I have left of my hair cells. Any protection at this stage in my damage is helpful. I am basing this on the US Navy study with Marine cohorts at a firing range. Supposedly the US Navy found some protection with Marine recruits firing rifles versus those that did not take NAC I'd have to find the study. But I did not find but one other study of its protective properties to SSNHL.

It has just arrived how much do I have a day :)

@nomoredreaming

I take 1,200 milligrams per day. You could start with 600 milligrams, and see how it affects you, then gradually build up. I don't know if it will do anything to help your T, but at least it will protect your ears from further damage.

Hi, I've been taking NAC for about 9 months now, and started taking it about 2 weeks after the start of my T. I started TRT at 60 days. I noticed no reduction in T that I could ascribe to NAC. I will continue to take it based on the positive studies that I have read about in terms of preventing future hearing loss.
